Gday folks.

Todays question is in relation to artwork/decor.

Specifically artwork one displays in the home.... Is there something you really like ( ex. spoons, figurines of some sort), a preference of types of pictures (black and white, colour, landscapes, people) or maybe a particular artist you enjoy?

Oh my, I'm afraid I'm pretty predictable. All my home deco is "cat-related." I have pics, and knick-knacks of cats. My favorite picture hangs over my couch. It's a very old portrait of five gray kittens playing on a chess board. Very nice.
As far as a favorite artist, I've always been attracted to Van Gogh (i know I screwed that spelling up). I love his use of colors

We have a lot of cat-related artwork on our walls.

In the living room:
Love Eyes proof by Catmandrew (Drew Strouble)

In the computer room:
Elmer and Loretta Hanging Out proof by Charles Wysocki (my favorite of all of them)
Guardian Angels Never Sleep (I can never remember who painted this. It shows an angel carrying an orange tiger kitty through the starry night sky up to heaven. DH bought it for me when our Pumpkin-Boy died.)

In the bedroom:
All Burned Out by Wysocki
Ethel the Gourmet by Wysocki
Frederick the Literate by Wysocki (my second favorite)
Maggie the Messmaker by Wysocki

My aunt gave us two beautiful paintings she had done years ago and they're in the bathroom.

And since I like to experiment with wines, DH gave me a beautiful print of the wine country at Niagara-on-the-Lake. It shows Niagara Falls flowing into a wine glass....as the falls reach the bottom of the glass, the water swirls into red wine. That's in the kitchen.

We have other wall hangings, but those are my favorites.

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
The type of 'artwork' I like is old tin or metal signs. Like the old style soda signs, or Harley Davidson, I loveeeee the whole pin up girl era Marilyn Monroe being the absolute icon. I guess my style for artwork falls into a male catergory because both BF and I love the same stuff. The only difference is that I have always had this interest to make my own table but I wanted to either make 2 seperate ones, one of 50s-60s style pin up girls, the other being made up of Playboy Playmates including PMOY from back when the magazine first started up to about the 70s but the center picture would be Marilyn Monroe, or have just a collage of both mixed together on one table.

Its weird for a female to want some type of decoration or furniture of basically naked women but its not something I like because they are naked but more of the era.

There's no place like home
I'm split between indigenous native American art (living room, bedroom), nautical (sun room, bathroom) with a smattering of cats (other bathroom). Anything that is made of cloth is a big hit for me. I tie it all together by using things that are mission style. Doesn't this sound chaotic?

I prefer the clutter free house..so nothing really on walls/display. I took over a corner cabinet in husbands game room has a few stuffed black cats and some random toy cars. ya thats about the extent of "decorating"

I have a beautiful wedding picture of my Mom and Dad hanging in the hallway. I had it restored from the original which was falling apart. They were married in 1927 and the gown was so beautiful, I will cherish that photo forever. I have a few more photo's in the hallway of my RB angel Misty and even my RB guinea pigs, Pudgie and Jackie. Of course Autumn's pic is there too.

In my living room I have two paintings of Water Falls which I bought in CA at an artist's show, I love those pics. Of course I have a few clown pics hanging on walls also since I collect them.

I'm another that likes things plain and uncluttered. I have an idea for a painting I want to do for the living room, when I have time to work on it (it will be an odd size so I'll have to make my own canvas and figure out how to keep the cats and their fur off of it while painting). No real interest in putting anyone elses work up.

I like a particular artist but only want one painting, it is expensive so I don't have it yet. I am not fond of clutter so my decor is simple minimalist. Which is good because I have a cat who like to push things around.

We prefer a clutter free house also, but I do have a collection of Willow Tree figurines scattered throughout the house, plus a small collection of hand blown glass balls that I get from a vendor at a huge craft fair here every year. I get a new one every year. I also recently started collecting different shaped clear glass jars that I find at thrift stores.

Glass balls hanging above our kitchen sink.

A few of my glass jars, and a willow tree figurine. These are in my "office". My favorite is the hershey kiss shaped one. I keep my stick pins in it.

Our decor, such as it is, is mainly country. Strange then that I choose to display prints of Vincent van Gogh's works. I fell in love with his work when I was a teenager and always have a few pieces on my walls.

No real style. Just whatever we get as gifts we put up. I have never purchased a piece of art unless it's from Ikea

I love those glass balls! Around here, we call them 'witch ball'; they were very popular in Victorian times and the antique examples cost a small fortune! You can actually find a lot of new ones on ebay.

Love TR also. My ex husbands buddy used to go with her sister.

I also like Charles Wysocki, Warren Kimble cat pics, my grandparents, Thelma Winter (a local artist who did beautiful Amish scenes). My mom and dad also painted.

I have mostly country/woodsy/primitive decor. I like cozy!
