Only one kitten has arrived

Hello,

Some of you may remember me, that my precious Amadeus died in July tragically. He sent me Maggie, a beautiful tabby/calico mix at the end of August. I discovered a couple weeks later that she was pregnant. She's about 7-8 months old. She is precious! So affectionate and loves to cuddle.

She went into labor today! I was so excited when I saw the first kitten. She and the kitten are doing great. The kitten was born about 2.5 hours ago, but no more kittens have come. Maggie is sleeping peacefully and the kitten is great.

Maggie isn't acting like she's in distress or anything, and she's not having any contractions. Is it possible that she is just having one little baby? How can I know?

It is not that unusual they do have only one baby.

Another possibility is, there MAY be others too. The kittens are in different sacks, and it is entirely possible for them to be born several hours apart. Yes, even days apart.
As long the mom is content and in no distress, you dont need to worry.

Of course, keep an eye on her. Complications are possible also after an normal birth. But as long as not anything unwanted happens - take it easy you too.
But if you do observe complications - say, raised temperature - it is immediately call to the vet - prob even asap transport to the vet.

Congrats!

Sending good thoughts your way! Glad you have experienced breeders such as Stefan here to call on.

Awww, how precious! Keep an eye on her, but if all seems well, there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I had a foster cat who had only one baby, and especially where Maggie is so young it makes it more probable. Good luck!

Quick update: I took Maggie and baby into the vet today just for good measure. The vet confirmed that there were no more babies inside and that the kitten looked very healty. Yay!
