Help! Absolutely Desperate...

Thread Starter
First off, I must say I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, so I appologize in advance if it's not.

I am writing today out of pure desperation.

Some of you might have seen my name in the past, as I signed up for this forum a year ago when I got my little guy named Louie. He's a love, and absolute sweetie.. he's also the reason I'm in this situation.

I live in a one bedroom apartment in downtown seattle, which is great for my older kitty, Diamond, but not my little guy. He's going crazy.
He wants to be outside, and desperately needs more attention than I can provide.

Because of my job, I'm only home roughly 10 hours a day, 7-8 of which is purely trying to sleep.

Louie on the other hand has different ideas. He spends most of his day purposely knocking things off of high places, I believe mostly out of entertainment for himself. He's very curious, and needs an outlet.

My older kitty Diamond cannot provide the playful companion he's seeking. And in return, he's so fiesty that he attacks her on a frequant basis trying to start play fights it seems. It's gotten to the point where she will not come when I call to her, or play with any of her old toys because she knows he will push her out of the way, or swat at her.

I am reaching out to see if there is any loving home in which he can go to. My coworkers and friends are not cat friendly people, and so I'm stuck in a very rough place.

I only hope someone out there is kind enough to help me with a suggestion.

And no, I really dont want to resort to a no-kill shelter as all my friends are suggesting.

Thanks!

Louie is about 17 months old.
I will bring on a photo later tonight. He's a domestic longhair (from what I can tell) tuxedo. He's extremely adorable.

I will admit (with head buried) that he has had very little vet work.
He was treated for worms & parasites when I first got him. Overall he's in great health. Healthy weight, coat and body.

I carry a lot of guilt over the fact that I have had sp little done for him, but this is the reason I an reaching out. I know there are people out there who could love him just as much as I do, and have the lifestyle he needs.

Is Louie neutered?

All paws crossed a solution is found for you and Diamond and Louie.
I will take him but he has to have his shots before he can come here. Three years ago, I had an outbreak of feline distemper and although the room has been sterilized and scrubbed and everything out of it has been burned or thrown away- I take no chances. That is why it is important for him to have his first shots and then you will need to wait two more days before bringing him here, because that is how long it takes for the vaccinations to take hold.

You are probably four hours away from me- maybe less.

That is great hissy

I'm hoping this works out folks, but she has informed me that money is pretty tight. She has dumped a lot of money into her other cat and doesn't currently have the funds for shots. I am tapped out having just had 6 kittens neutered and chipped or I would help out.
I wish this were a few years ago when being able to pay for a couple of vaccination shots wasn't even a second thought, or Louie would already be on his way to you, MA.

Hissy, how much does she need for the shots?
She needs to answer that. I do my own shots except rabies and will sometimes with the younger kittens take the vaccinations in and let the vet inject them. For my kittens to have their shots it cost me $35.00 for the shots and $20.00 for the visit. I think it just depends on where you live and who your vet is.
The OP lists their location as Seattle, so according to this link http://www.vetsforless.com/pricing.html
FVRCP $13
Rabies $11
and they do not charge office visit with vaccines

Not sure how far this is from the OP though
1115 South 348th Street, Suite D
Federal Way, Washington 98003

wow $79 for a tooth cleaning, its amost worth crossing the border!
Federal Way, Washington sounds like Washington D.C. to me. OP is in Seattle, Washington.
I will pay for the shots directly to the vet, just PM me the information, and I send the money to make this happen...
My error. I just Googled the zip code and bingo! yes there actually is a town in the state of Washington named Federal Way!
I hope OP takes everyone up on their kind offers!

Yep, right at the top it says Vet in Seattle area I double checked because I thought it was DC too

It might still be a bit far but will give the OP an idea of low cost prices in their area to compare
post #19 of 33
I think it is amazing that you are all steping forward to help this kitty have a wonderful life/home. Well done!

OP hasn't posted since October 19. Seems like she's not as concerned as we are. I wonder if Carolina got a PM from her? I didn't.
Yep, but she hasn't been back since the 19th... She then said she was absolutely desperate... Today is the 25th...

Sounds like you are right
But....maybe we can direct our energies to helping out another kit in need - I'm sure Hissy or Eilcon can give a few suggestions :
I just hope Louie's OK. Kinda scarey and worrying to see the "absolutely desperate" and actually have people willing to pay for shots and someone to take the kitty and then no response!
I agree. Help is here, your prob solved. And nothing. Unsettling.
Just my thoughts- Generally, when I make this offer, and I will from time-to-time- the OP will beat their feet trying to get to my door. In many cases, the kitty is on borrowed time, and the lifeline thrown is held on eagerly and the cat is in my possession usually within a few days. I suspect, and I hope to be proven wrong- that this kitten has already been given up on, which would be such a shame because he is only acting like a bored kitten. Here, he would have plenty of interaction with the group both in the house and outside in the enclosure and all the lap time he needed. But, I have heard nothing past a quick PM that said it wouldn't be right away, but she would be down in Oregon in the future.- pretty tenious if you ask me.

Since I said I would take him, I have had three more kittens dropped over my fence so I am really full at the moment. But, I will still take Louie if he ever gets into my neck of the woods.

That's a real shame. What an offer you gave them too. I hope the little guy is ok.

Makes me very sad.

You are a quality person to have given that offer.

Hi Guys -

I'm very sorry I have not been able to reply. Work has pulled me out the door for nearly every waking moment.
Louie is doing peachy at the moment. Yes I am desperate to find him a happy home.
I have not given up on him. I'm trying to have extra play time with him as I can scrap it together. I do love him very dearly.

Federal way is about a 30-45 minute drive from downtown seattle. I dont own a car, and my boyfriend just lost his. I am making arrangements to go to a nearby Banfield vet clinic that does the low cost shots. I was able to work it out with them to get all shots for under $50 with no visit cost.

As I explained to Hissy, I am doing what I can as quickly as I can. My boyfriend is currently trying to help me get the money together to get him neutered to see if it will help calm his nerves and make me re-concider giving him away (he's fallen in love with him when he behaves himself)

I really appreciate the responses. And Caroline, you're a wonderful person. I really couldnt be more thankful for your great response.

I will keep you all updated.

Also, it's hard for me to get back here too frequantly due to my work schedule.

Personally, I am not looking for additional ways to spend my money. I donate $36 each month to the ASPCA, as well as taking care of our own 6 cats. I was prepared to send a check to help the OP, but no one ever got back to me with details so my offer is withdrawn.

I was hoping to flush you out of the woodwork. Louie just needs some playtime and attention- one-on-one if you set it up on a schedule, this will help him relax when he is alone. For example, one week of a scheduled play time say at 9:00 p.m. and lasting no more than 20 minutes, will get Louie's body to realize that this is something occurring every night without fail. Something he can look forward to. Follow up your play with a meaty treat that he never gets anytime else. Check out www.nekoflies.com for the BEST and I do mean the BEST interactive cat toy, I have ever had the pleasure to present to my crew. Make sure this is supervised activity if you buy one of these, and my suggestion is either the Kittenator or the Karatula! It is a young company, but the owner- boy, does she understand and love cats!

At any rate, the offer stands. If you can't work with Louie and get him to calm down, I will take him. Normally, I could come and pick him up, but these days nothing about my life is normal!

Take care and good luck- sounds like he is in the right home after all. I was afraid you had just tossed him outside or sent him packing to the pound.
