Litter box Problem; REALLY need help.

I'm about at my wits end with this problem. I have 3 cats, Oldest is 2y, Middle is just over a year, & the youngest is 7m. My oldest & youngest cats have no problems what so ever with the litter box. My Oldest cat is neutered. The middle & youngest cats will be very soon. But My Middle cat, Puff, had no problems at the beginning, used the litter box perfectly fine. Around the time we got our youngest cat, 7-8m ago, Puff stopped pooping in the litter box. He will pee in the box, but poops everywhere else around the box but not in it. Now all 3 cats have their own room, we call "The Cat room", where their cat tree is, their litter boxes, & toys are. Food is in the kitchen. 3 cats = 3 litter boxes, so they all have their own litter boxes. I just don't understand. No change in litter, No change in food. Do you think getting him neutered will help the problem? I really need advise on this problem, please. I love my cat to death & really don't want to get rid of him... but this problem has to stop!

In the wild, cats often will not pee and poop in the same spot. The rule of thumb with litter boxes is to have 1 per cat plus an extra, so in your case, you should have 4 boxes. What I've noticed about cats is that the more in your household, the more instinctual behavior arises.

Since this happened about the time that you adopted your kitten, is sounds like Puff is stressed by the kitten to some degree. Try an additional box, get him neutered (that also may help), and if it continues, look into Feliway diffusers.

This is a relatively easy problem to solve if you work it.

Alright, Thank you so much! I don't think Puff cares much for the new addition. My Oldest & Puff are very laid back, down to earth cats & the new kitten bounces off the walls, gets into everything, always trying to play fight with them. That was the first reason i thought, was b/c of the new kitten. When I go get Puff neutered I'm going to get him checked & make sure there isn't anything else wrong. I'm really hoping this helps. Another thing i just thought about, This started when Puff first sprayed for the first time. Could that have anything to do with it? I'm going to go out tomorrow & get another box when i pick up more litter.
thank you!

Sure sounds like it. A new addition can cause stress, and stress can also cause physical illnesses. I would schedule his neuter sooner rather than later, and ask the vet to give him a full health exam at that time. You definitely want to rule out any physical problem before you assume it's behavioral.

Keep us posted!
