The feral mama cat finally came back to our backyard the past few days (less than a week) after being gone a few months. Three days ago, she was HUGE. Yesterday she wasn't as huge, but she still looks "big" like she's nursing. There has been a kitten with her since she's been back, but I'm terrible at guessing the age of kittens.

1) At what age do feral mama cats usually kick kittens out of the nest, so to speak? Can we guestimate that the kitten is about 8 weeks since the mama just gave birth?

2) How long should we wait to try to trap the mama cat and get her fixed? We have no idea where the kittens are, so getting them all inside isn't an option. How old do kittens have to be before they can handle mama being gone all day to get fixed (trapped in the morning and returned in the evening when she's able to walk)?

THANKS!
