I'm contemplating the possibility of opening a no-kill shelter for cats in my area. The first and foremost concern will be satisfying the funding requirements. I have thought of applying for any and all applicable grants that might further me in this pursuit but I really don't know how or where to begin. Can any one advise me as to possible sources for funding, who might offer such grants and how to apply for them, and how to set up and do all of this within the context of a non-profit organization? I know this is a very general question but I would like to get this thread going so that it can-hopefully-lead me down more specific and productive paths. Everyone's input is welcome and I look forward to hearing from you.

Before you apply for anything I would check the zoning in your area. If it isn't zoned for a cattery or kennel you could have more trouble than you need.
If the zoning is OK for a cattery go to the county clerks office for information. They can tell you what you need to do. I would also check with other no kill shelters in the area for advice. I'm sure they will be happy to help you and help you fill your available spaces.
