My kitten Billy is about 6 months old. He is a chubby boy and loves food so much. When we give "treats" which is wet food, he runs to it! (he is blind so it is super cute as he sniffs til he finds it, and we try to help him find it. He gets very concerned about his food!)
Anyway...overnight it got kinda chilly. Temp was down to about 36. We didn't realize it was going to be cold, and had no heat on and a couple downstairs windows open. He slept in our bed, and we had one window in our room open but it didn't get very cold in our room, our upstairs stays kinda warm. I am not sure how long during the night he stayed in our room vs. downstairs.
This morning, he ate his treats just fine (he gets his own small plate). He has slept on the couch on a blanket most of the day, but he sleeps a lot so that is kinda normal. Every time he walked into the kitchen, which is linoleum flooring, he would stop and look confused because the floor stayed cold all day. When he stayed in the kitchen for more than a couple minutes, he would hop onto a box or the table to get off the cold floor. We gave evening treats, and he walked away from it. He NEVER gives up food. He usually eats his plate, then searches for more food from the other treat plates. We brought his plate onto carpet and he ate a few bites, then pawed around it, and walked away. We tried again a few minutes later and he ate some of it, but my husband walked away before he saw him finish and when he checked again another cat was licking the plate, so I am not sure if he ate it.
We are kinda concerned. I know it is only the first time, but he never ever walks away from a plate of food. Earlier while he was sleeping i noticed his ears were really cold, so I had him under a blanket with me. His ears are cold again. I am worried that it is too cold for him but its in the upper 50's and he is on blankets. Can cold air cause a cat to get sick? Should I be worried or give it until tomorrow and see how he does eating treats in the morning?
