Wow these RV's are really beautiful. I would tell anyone who travels a lot by car to buy one of these. Why travel with a little car and have to spend money on motels when you have everything you need right there including food.

Well it is hard to run errands in a big RV - we tow the car on a dolly.
In fact - that's why we got an RV instead of a 5th Wheel. We didn't want to trade in the car for a truck to tow the home; the bigger RVs have engines powerful enough to easily tow the car.

So why would someone live in one permanently? Because they like to travel?
Someone who doesn't want to pay rent, mortgage, utilities, etc. Someone who wants to wake up in a different place almost every day.

Do a search for vandwelling and it'll tell you all about the lifestyle. Vandwelling is being houseless, not homeless.

I'm planning on doing it myself in a few years...

Alot of younger people are doing it nowadays because of out of control rent and mortgages...

You ever go camping and see a "camp host"? That is one of many jobs that a vandweller can do. It's a very outdoors lifestyle. I'm going to convert a Chevy Astro into a liveable dwelling.

I came across a site www.cheaprvliving.com and knew what needed to be done. I'm tired of packing and moving crap. This way, if you're neighbors are too loud, you don't like the area, etc, all you have to do is get in the drivers seat and turn the key and boom, you're gone somewhere else...granted, it is more of a lifestyle for singles...

But haven't I read articles about people who are displaced because the land they had their RV on was sold? Or maybe that was mobile homes?

What is that gorgeous car in the photo?

But you've got to pay something haven't you? You'd need sewage hookups and water hookups, etc. wouldn't you?

It depends on how primitive you want to go. It also depends on what kind of a rig you have. Since I will be doing the bare minimum in a Astro van (because I want to be stealth), I'll have a $40/month membership to YMCA for showers, a luggable loo for waste(close up bag and toss in dumpster and bottles for pee) and water, I'll have a grey water jug for doing dishes and such and a pump for clean water. And, since it is an Astro, I'll be able to spend the night just about anywhere. Walmart parking lots are popular with the vandwelling crowd, also out somewhere in the boondocks. Lots of BLM land out there... I won't have worry if someone sees my huge RV and comes to tell me I can't park there.

Check out the site and you can see what people do to their vans and trucks...

That would be mobile homes.
Mobile homes above a certain age cannot legally be transported.

I pay no space rent or utilities, I work for the resort park I live in.

Oh wow, I am so jealous, my hubby and my dream is to be able to one day afford a big caravan so we can just pack up, hook it on our 4x4 and go away when we want to, we have looked at so many but I don't think we will ever afford it, even the second hand decent ones we can get as little as £4000 and they are just amazing inside. Our last holiday was the first one in 7 years and we would love to make holidays a regular thing and I think having a caravanwould help that. Maybe one day

^Ruthy, didn't you tell us you're only thirty? You've got plenty of time to do all those things.

With a big RV, yes, you do have to pay for the site. Unlike Arlyn, we don't work for the park where we live, but those opportunities do exist. An RV site can be a LOT cheaper than what you have to pay to live in an apartment. That said - some of those gorgeous resorts cost as much as it does to rent an apartment on a monthly basis AND you may have the monthly payment on the RV.

But it's an amazing market right now for used RVs. You can get some gorgeous ones with low mileage and in great shape for pennies on the dollar.

^That is an exquisite car. Loved the UTube video also. That car can move!

About once a year, a bunch of vintage cars can be seen moving through Hartford. They don't build cars like that now and it's fabulous to see these old beauties.

Growing up in England, my father had a vintage Rolls Royce. People would wave as we drove by - probably thought we were royalty!
