Shalimars Neuter

Yesterday was Shalimars neuter. I dropped him off on my way into work (the vet is 5 mins from my work). Luckily I was very very busy at work so it helped keep my mind occupied. I was able to call the vet after 12 and his neuter went fine YAY! It has been so long since I have dealt with neutering or spaying in kittens. I was very nervous about it all. But he's doing well. He was purring up a storm when I picked him up from the vets. I dont think I'd ever heard him purr so loud!!!! He continued to do so at home too. He's in my bedroom away from the other cats. Last night was a bit rough. He has this cough (I dont remember this happening in my other cats when they were neutered/spayed). But it may be due to his smooshier face???? The vet did say it is normal but if it gets worse or doesnt go away soon to call. So every time he coughed last night I woke up lol. All worried. He slept with me and was mostly laying on my chest or right up next to me. He's been eating and drinking and using the litter box so overall he's doing well. That cough just freaks me out a bit. The incision site looks great. This vet did a really nice job. I hope Shalimar isn't too mad at me!!!!! LOL

He's so handsome and he's really grown! How's he doing today? Is he still coughing? It's possible he contracted an upper respiratory infection while at the vet's.

If the vet uses inhalant anesthetic, the intubation can cause coughing for a while after surgery.

The cough has gone away now- it did make me worry cause it sounded pretty nasty and I've never experienced that with my other cats when they were neutered/spayed. He was much better Saturday and today its pretty much gone. Today he is also back to his normal self. I'm still trying to keep him quiet but he wants to run around and act like a kitten so its hard.

Soooo glad the cough is gone and that he's feeling more like himself. Personally, I'd just let him do what he wants to do and if he gets too rambunctious, then worry about it. We tried to seclude Tumbles in a separate room when we first brought him home but it was miserable for all of us. He pretty much slept and laid low Thursday. He was more active Friday, but still not 100%. Yesterday he was climbing (jumping) the walls. I think Shalimar will be fine.
