This is my first time on this board, but I just thought I'd ask and see if anyone has ever heard of this before - my sphynx cat has a rash on her chest. It goes from her neck to the middle of her ribcage, and has recently spread to the top of her head, too. The vet suggested (without seeing her) that maybe she was allergic to the plastic bowls we were using, so I now have glass bowls, but the rash doesn't seem to be going away. I read the article someone else posted about pets being allergic to their owners, and that sounds like an idea I hadn't thought of before... Any other ideas of what it could be??? And if it was an allergy (my parents DSH has an allergy to fish!!), any suggestions on how to figure out what she could be allergic to without spending tons of $$$ at the vet? Thanks for any ideas!!!

It depends on if it's a food allergy or an inhaled allergy. If it inhaled, not much you can do except try washing bedding in something different, vacuum often and try to keep smoke and pollens to a minimum. Some cats just have seasonal allergies. You can also try one of the air filters for the house.
With a food allergy you would have to switch to a special RX diet until they clear up and then add an ingredient at a time. It is easier and cheaper to have them send out a test. It will show what they have a high reaction to and you can buy food without that particular ingredient. I know here in CT we use a place called Bio Medical services and they even send back a list of foods.

I am sure you are but just in case, are you bathing your kitty weekly and if so what shampoo are you using?

We started off with Johnson Johnson baby shampoo. Then I bought this cat shampoo simple stuff. Then we just ran out and bought this palmers sensitive skin stuff.
