My Cat Is Not Burying Her Poop

Thread Starter
I am a cat owner of 2 rescue cats. Their names are Mr. Jinxy and Missy Girl.

One of our cats, I think Missy Girl, have not been burying poop. She just goes in there and take a dump then leaves the litter box. It STINKS up the entire apartment! I have to go there every single time and cover litter on the poop and sprays air fresher.

This is not a new behavior. We've been dealing with this for some time now. We have been using the same litter brand (World's Best Cat Litter) and it works really well.

So, I have no idea how to remedy this problem.

Tell me that I am not the only one with a smelly, lazy cat who won't bury her poop!!!! And what can we do to solve this issue????

I can tell you you're not the only one! My Tulip doesn't bury hers either. She never has and I've had her and her sister Pansy since they were kittens. Luckily for me, Pansy doesn't much like the smell either so she usually goes in there and buries it so I don't have to. Sorry, I don't have any remedies to your problem but I know how you feel!

Often it's a dominance behavior in multi cat homes. She doesn't bury it because that's sending a clear signal to the other cat.

Other reason cats don't bury - don't like the feel of a particular litter on their feet, jumping out in a hurry (preoccupied), and just not in the habit of doing so.

I don't believe there's really anything you can do. I have a couple that don't cover and cats that cover everyone's stools, so someone eventually covers it up if I don't get to it first.

My Callie does that and it's annoying. Since you use WBCL, instead of burying it for her, why don't you just flush it at the time? The stinkiness can be attributed to her food, so if you change foods, you might get less stink.

With two cats and one litter box, this happens. Just be happy that they both use the litter box. The best solution is to clean it. Think of it this way, how do you feel when you use a public bathroom and the toilet is covered in pee, especially if there is a dump in there..........The quicker one can get in and out the better

Ku Ku is the same way. Once in a while she does cover...but that's whenever she feels like it, I guess.

She usually wakes me up(dunno why but she tends to poop either right after I turn light off to sleep or early in the morning few minutes before I wake!) as soon as she poops, OR, I get waken up by the sound of her "wiping" her paws in litter box as if telling me, "here, yew clean mah bathroom".

Yeah it's annoying if you ask me but if that's the way she is, then there's no way to fix it. I just have to deal with it...

This was not an issue for Butzie. We are on a 2 day schedule. She never complains about her litter box and I clean it when it looks to me like she won't use after 2 days. She is such a good girl.I do have to clean the floor
around the box because Butzie insists upon cleaning her paws on the floor,
