I was surfing this morning, as usual and decided to look up an old friend from the late 80's, early 90's. She'd lived in the apt above mine during the time I was going through a divorce from a too early marriage and we had some quite wild times.

As time went on, I matured, she moved to Dallas, I married and had a child and we lost touch. I thought it might be cool to reconnect with her while I was in the hospital next month.

Instead of a Facebook page, I find an obituary and an article about her death.

I just emailed the reporter to find out "HOW? WHY?" Apparently she'd been on a vacation to NYC last October and was taking a bath and fell asleep with the hot tap still running. She died of hyperthermia.

RIP Trish. You helped make me a more interesting person and gave me some wonderful memories that will forever make me smile---even through my tears today.

Thanks for listening,

Cally

A similar thing happened to me - I tried to find an old friend re Facebook, and in my search, ran across the death index and found my friend had died in May this year!

I knew where he had moved to long ago and this is where the index said he had died - never got ahold of him over the years. So sad.

I tried to find the obit on him cause I knew his DOD but was unable to find anything.

So sorry to hear that.
I just lost a friend few weeks ago, she committed a suicide and it was totally unexpected.

So sorry to hear about your friend. I lost HS guys, 1 to AIDS and the other 2 to 9/11. Hearing it through the Alumni newsletter was just as devastating as Facebook.

Thanks everyone,

Golden Kitty and Northern Glow, I am sorry for your losses as well. I wondered about Trish and suicide, and that's why I emailed the reporter to see if he knew the cause of death because in the article the autopsy had not yet been completed. I remember how Trish and I both used to talk about our love of scalding hot baths so I can see how it could happen to her, with unlimited hot water in a big hotel. She also would live every second to the fullest, so no doubt she was exhausted that night. Sigh...

Very sorry to hear about your friend

I found a list of graduates from my mom's high school once on an alumni site, and it actually listed if some were deceased. She learned a few HS friends she had lost touch with had died over the years - it was pretty saddening.

I've learned about losses from people I was friends with and/or knew in HS through Facebook. So far two have passed away this year - one girl was murdered by guy a few years older than us, and the other guy had bone cancer.
Even now it's hard to believe they're not here anymore, as both were only 22.
