Yesterday morning I went to register at the hospital, I was there for a good 3 hours. I left at 2:30 in the afternoon and came home to find out that Twinkles had drowned in the neighbors pool! The man said that when he left to the store at 6:00 in the morning, Twinkles was sitting on a rock in the driveway. He thought about cleaning the leaves out of the pool, but he decided to leave it until later.
He returned home at 7:00 and went to clean out the pool. He saw a cat at the bottom of the pool and told his wife. She came to the door at 7:00 but no one was awake. I had no idea where Twinkles was. I searched for her everywhere. The man told my brother that a cat had drowned in his pool and asked him to come see if it was ours. Sure enough, it was Twinkles.
They keep a tarp over the pool, but they didn't connect it. Their kids wake up in the morning and head straight for the pool. Twinkles must have jumped up thinking it was a safe landing, and fell under the tarp. The pool has a rounded edge so it would've been impossible for her to get out. I know she suffered. I wish I could turn back time.
The neighbors got rid of the pool. They feel horrible about what happened. They sent us geraniums and a sympathy card.
Here's Twinkles, she died at the age of 10 years on July 21st 2003.
