I asked Tanna if she was aware if her weight problem. I'm not sure if her sassy meow was yes or telling me to shove it.

I suggest people download the dry cat food pdf and wet food pdf calorie lists. It's missing some foods but quite a few are on there - it would make for an easy quick reference.

Chester luckily has lost 3lbs that he needed to lose. He could stand to lose another pound but I am not telling him that!!

That list is a little out of date with some of the Nutro foods. Like the Lobster, they don't make anymore and haven't for at least 2 or more years. I am sure if they call Nutro or any company on there they can get a recent caloric count.

I've never seen any Lobster flavor. Did it actually have lobster in it?... That must have smelled wonderful back in processing when they were running it.

Tanna's problem is that she's young and tiny - kitten sized. But her belly doesn't know that.
I've started cutting her back and she's off the pred. now, but just a little while ago I had to shoo her out of Tomas' food. She's just under a pound over weight.
I honestly can't make her exercise more, she's a kitten and behaves like one - when awake she's bouncing around the house.

The site mentioned secret ingredients in treats - dog treats with sugar. Mars admits to adding blood plasma product to their Temptations at meetings (it is not listed on the packaging), I wonder what else they add to make them so additive to cats. Any idea if they're sneaking in anything funky, too? (I'm sure you've had to sit through those meetings talking about all of their products - candy and foods, too, and done the team building stuff)

We've known for years that Sneaky's had a bit of a weight problem.

At her last vet visit- she had lost a pound or so. Part of her problem was that she'd eat her food- then eat Mistoflees' food. After Mistoflees died- she wasn't eating nearly as much. And now they really don't finish each other's food off. And I'm trying to get both animals to eat only 2x a day.

And then we got Holly
Holly likes to play. And I'm hoping the weight loss is due to her playing with Holly and not something else.

We have a Wii and keep track of both animal's weights. Holly is 11 lbs- almost a year old. But she's also taller and longer than Sneaky, so she doesn't look overweight.

I don't give them treats either. The only time we had treats was when they came in the bag of cat food we'd bought- and then Holly found them and helped herself to them

We are too aware of Darko Tubbo's weight problem. He's been on a diet for about a month, and all the other cat's have lost some weight, but I think Darko has gained what they lost.
I'm ready for Plan B, whatever that is!!

We're going to have to stop even the measured free feeding again.
We'd stopped free feeding, but nearly had a revolt, and with having to integrate Chumley, we put the food problem on the back burner. We did, however, start doing measured free feeding. They're now eating 2 wet meals a day, and the vet and I figured out the right amount of dry for each cat. I divided that in half, and I measure the dry into bowls with what looks like a rather pitiful amount of food twice a day.

Despite that, Ming Loy is still almost 2 pounds overweight, but the vet isn't concerned. Billy, on the other hand, remains stubbornly 4 pounds overweight. We've got him running around like a nut. I think he just eats more. No one seems to be loosing weight though... so maybe I need to revisit the amount of food I'm putting out. Unfortunately, I think Billy would still gobble it all up, and the other kitties would start loosing.

Gonna have to stop even the measured free feeding at some point.

Yes it did have Lobster in it and my Chester actually LOVED it! The food itself didn't smell too bad.

Now that Chester is getting older his activity has slowed down some but when he plays he is full on kitten mode!
He loves to chase around the laser pointer. He also likes to stalk our little dog and they wrestle now and then.
He is bigger than the dog.

As for the Temptations while I do work for Nutro, a Mars company, I am not familiar with the Temptations line of cat treats. In order for you to get the best answer to your question I'd recommend contacting the Temptations Treats customer service line at 800-525-5273. They are also on Facebook at...http://www.facebook.com/Temptations.

^I doubt they'd tell their "secret ingredient".
In fact they'd probably want to know how I found out about it in the first place. It was just something bragged about at a meeting not too long ago.

And yes, the food never smells that bad when it's the finished product. Processing is a different matter entirely.

I agree, I don't think I would want to be around when the Lobster was being made. I am not a Lobster fan myself.

A State of Confusion
I spent quite a bit of time last year getting Miss Tiny and Mr. Thufir to lose weight. You can read about it at the link in my signature if you're interested. They're down from about 18.5 & 17.5 pounds to 13.5 now. That's still a little high, but I did a lot of traveling over the Spring and Summer and it's too much work to ask the pet sitter to feed them the way I do while I'm gone. I don't have any big trips planned in the near future, so I'm hoping to get them a little slimmer in the next 6 months. If there was one lesson I learned from having to do the diets, it's to try and get my cats on scheduled meals (rather than free-feeding) while they're young and they tolerate it better.

I had that problem, too. My two big kitties eat a lot and if I just feed everyone together, they'll gobble down their food and then push my two smaller kitties out of the way and eat theirs, too. The only solution I could come up with was to feed Tiny and Thufir in separate rooms so that I could control their portions.
