I just checked my online chart with my doctor in Dallas. They have me scheduled for pre-hospitalization tests and consultations PLUS my first two out-patient visits once the procedure is done. This can only mean that the insurance company approved it.

WOW...just WOW! It's really happening. Just 3 more weeks and it will begin. Unfortunately, I got my period yesterday, which means the next one will likely occur when I'm at the lowest, blood count wise, which means bleeding could be an issue (they won't even allow you to shave your legs in case of a nick) so that is a tad concerning. They said they can stop the flow hormonally, but that just sounds yuck. Oh, to be irregular like I used to be and go months and months between periods...sigh. LOL

Anyway, had to share! It's really "going down!"

Good luck with everything!

I would think skipping your period will be just like if you are taking birth control and skip the placebo pills so you dont have a period that month!

That's so exciting, but scary at the same time! Will definitely be praying for you and your family during the coming weeks.

Excellent news!!!

Please let me know if you need anything at all while in Dallas - transportation from the airport, a place to stay, transportation to the hospital... a kitty or two to hug! I work out of my house, and whatever you need, I will be glad to be right there for you... you just whistle, ok? I am very close to the medical district, downtown and everything else - just let me know

Thanks everyone,

I got off the phone with the "nurse in charge" and got more details. I'm a bit bummed that I will be spending 4 nights instead of 3 in the hospital. OTOH, it will be better because they give you drugs to make you pee out the chemo after they finish it and that would make the 110 mile drive home....ummmm....interesting, especially if I'm pukey, too.

The bone marrow growth factor, however, has been approved for me to give myself. That will save me at least 4 trips to Dallas in the 2 weeks after being in the hospital. For that I am grateful.

Carolina, so interesting you offered (heheheh).... I am planning to be doing the hospital stint all alone as my husband will be staying home to care for my daughter and the pets. I'm going to be LONELY!!! Sooooo, if you'd like to come and visit, I would love to meet you. You'll probably have to wear a mask because I'll be in the bone marrow transplant unit, but we could still visit. PM me and I can give you my cell info, hospital info, etc. I'll be right down near Parkland, so I know that's close to your 'hood.

I talked to the nurse about the period issue as well. We finally decided to just play it by ear as she said some have no issues. I decided against the birth control pills as I get nausea problems from them and I don't want to feel bad any more than necessary. Hope I made the right decision. Better yet, maybe I'll be late and it will be a total non-issue.

More as it happens...

Oh, definitely! I will love meeting you!
I searched Parkland and Parkland Hospital came up - that is only 3.5 miles away from my house... If that's around where you are going to stay, you are going to be very close!
I will PM you later to get the info!

This is great news! Maybe I could get down to visit while you're here, too -- and meanwhile, lots and lots of vibes!

Cool, Carol! I'd love to meet you.

Watch me get all these visits set up and then be one of the 10% that puke from start to finish! ROFL.
