Good Morning folks,

After it being a long weekend here (Thanksgiving ) I was wondering:

How do you usually spend your holidays? Specifically statutory holidays like Thanksgiving day, Easter Monday, etc. The days where all stores are closed.

Do you catch up on housework, have some family time, go visiting, etc.

I hide from everyone. LOL. The last couple of years BF and I bounced between his dads house and my moms. This year though because of ignorant people we are actually going to have our own meal with his brother and gf. I am cooking everything and they are all coming over here. I personally am very happy with this situation and so is BF cuz I promised him that if we didnt go to his step brothers that I wouldnt make him eat at my moms but we did have to go pick up the girls so they could sleep over. We both win. Im planning my Thanksgiving menu now and then right after Thanksgiving Ill be planning our Christmas dinner. We are trying to find a recipe for Red Lobsters Cheddar Bay biscuits...They are sooo yummy.

I only get 2 holidays off per year--Thanksgiving and Christmas. Since my family is gone I usually spend it with friends and Bella...This year will be hard without Bella. I did find out recently though that I will be having Turtle over during the holidays...so she will get me through it.

We usually go to my Mom's for supper on holidays, and usually to my MIL's for lunch. At Mom's, she cooks the meat and everyone brings a covered dish.
At MIL's, she does it all. I always ask her if I can bring anything and her reply is, "I don't know what it would be."

Well I'm Canadian, but I have to usually work Canadian holidays but get American holidays off as the accounts I work on are American.
I usually spend my time off just relaxing, reading, etc.

Around here, holidays are always spent with family. Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. everybody has gotten into the habit of coming here now. We'll have a really nice dinner and spend time together. Last year for Thanksgiving, my nieces came over early to help me cook for dinner.....we had such a good time together. This year for Thanksgiving, we're all going to one of my nieces for dinner. My sister and I are going there the night before, so that we can help her with the meal.

For Christmas, our kids are taking turns....one Christmas they spend with us; the next Christmas, they go to her parents. This year is the year they stay with her parents, so it will probably just be DH and me. My sister has said that, if they don't go down to stay with her son and DIL over the holidays, they would like to have dinner with us. And that's fine with me.

For summer holidays, we do BBQs and picnics. Everybody comes over and we hang out by the pool. We'll do pulled pork on the grill or BBQ chicken, whatever we feel like doing. There's usually about 14-15 of us spending time together. Lots of good food and lots of fun.

I usually go visiting, I normally don't cook on holidays since I am always invited out and that works well for me since I think by now everyone knows how I hate to cook. I like to get away from the house sometimes and being with family and friends on holidays is nice and I don't have extra cooking or cleaning. Now that's what you call a holiday :-)))

Mostly we go visit my family, b/c my mom is a jerk and throws a tantrum if she has to share us or heaven forbid we go to the "other" people's houses (i.e. the in laws whom i love btw and would love to spend more holidays with b/c it is less stressful). The only time we can spend a holiday with my inlaws is if we have the holiday (like thanksgiving or easter) at OUR house, and then my parents won't come b/c my mom is petty and hates my mother and father in law. *sigh* When we move, though, things will definitely change and it will have to be about 50/50 or at least close b/c we will be so far away.

DH and I spend all holidays alone, with each other, no other family. Mine doesn't associate with me any more, and his usually have to work on major holidays. For example, we get together with them at my house to do Christmas early in December. I make a big dinner (really lunch, as they like to arrive home before dark).

I have a government job, so they are generous with the lesser holidays. We usually are open, but can either work the day, and take it off later, or take the day itself off. We get about 12 of those per year. I always say I'm going to do something "special", but seem to usually end up doing housework!

We alternate family time. Usually every single day we are booked, I am not a big fan of it
I enjoy being a hermit.

We used to take Jenny to any of event or outdoorsy something since she was little. When Ben came along, we couldn't take him to anything. We were lucky to get to a movie. Now, being divorced, I don't do much of anything except go to the gym and watch TV.

Well, in Japan we only really have New Year's as a guaranteed holiday, and even then not everything is closed. We usually spend New Year's with my husband's family and visit the local shrine at midnight to receive a talisman for luck for the next year. On New Year's Day we go to another shrine to eat New Year's food and receive fortunes for the new year.

It honestly just depends on the holiday, normally I spend them between my family & Jack's family.
