On Monday, after I got home from classes, I had a voicemail message. See, I'm a student at Portland State University, and work retail... have been for 4 years (the job part). Last year, my commute to work tripled when I gave up my car. It takes me 1.5 hours to get to work, for barely above minimum wage. It stinks. So... the week before this school term started, there was a campus job fair... jobs on campus, student jobs. I handed my resume to three departments. Last Monday, the message was to call me in for an interview on Friday for the Portland State Professional Sound department.
Then all he** broke loose and had vet stuff and lost my baby boy, Jack.
I went in for the interview after work on Friday. They were thinking Admin Assistant and Web Developer for the department, based upon my resume. But since I'm also returning for a second BA in Theater Arts - Tech, I wanted to learn the audio equipment. I said as much, interjecting my own brand of humor and quirkiness into my answers. They thanked me (I was also the last interview of the day), said they'd get back to me the middle of 'next week,' (which is now THIS week).
I got home from classes today, around 9:30. Fed JoJo, found some papers I need for a doctor's appt tomorrow morning, then sat down to check email. Another voicemail (I have Vonage, which does Visual Voicemail, which is rather funky voice-to-text translation and doesn't always work right). I downloaded the actual voicemail itself and listened.
They were impressed and are offering me the job!!!!
I'm so stinkin' happy, I've been trying to NOT hyperventilate.... I love the store, but a change has been LONG overdue... my commute will be cut to about 1/4 of what it is now. I won't have to be on my feet all day. I'll be doing things I enjoy in a field I love.
I believe God is smiling down on me right now, with Jack on His lap, demanding belly rubs...
And now I really *must* go to bed... there's that pesky doctor's appt in the morning...
