Hello,

A vet made a mistake today and gave two of our 4-5 month old cats Biocan-L which is a dog vaccine.

Should we be worried, any adverse effects?

He said he will give them the proper vaccine tommorow, should we wait or go ahead?

Also they were due for nuetering tommorow. What do you advise?

Thank you, im very worried.

I would call the manufacturer and see what they say. I would NOT give them vaccines tomorrow. If you know they are safe and not spraying/able to mate a female I would hold off a week or two for the neutering as I wouldn't trust the vet to not give them the cat shots.

May want to look into this further to make sure it was a one time mistake and not a sign of carelessness that has happend before

Wait. Even if the vaccine has no affects you don't want to be adding more adjuvants into a cat's system that soon. I'd wait on the neutering, too, but only because I don't believe too much of anything like that should be done at once to a cat if it's possible to avoid it.

It's also best to spread out cat vaccinations instead of giving multiple ones at once. Doing so help decrease the chances of reaction to vaccinations.

Since the vet messed up, make sure they credit you any charges for the wrong vaccine and if that visit was specifically for vaccinations - make them credit you back the cost of that office visit.

Call vet prior to ensure they will do the right thing

If it was me, I would not be setting foot back in that vet hospital. There is absolutely no excuse for giving an animal the wrong vaccine.

A tech could have (and likely did) grab the wrong vac - instead of the vet doing it. Once drawn up into a syringe most of the vacs look exactly the same.

Then they should keep a better eye on their techs.

I think that's a mistake that shouldn't be made. I personally wouldn't go back there, but that's my own humble opinion. And I wouldn't give any other vacc's yet, I would wait, and also get a second opinion from another vet if at all possible. Also, definitely please get your money returned for those vacc's, and exam fee. That is ridiculous. If the vet is a decent vet I do not think they'd have any problem trying to fix their error.... good luck...
