Hi,

I just feel the need to share this very sad experience. I hit a cat on the way home from church today. There was just nothing I could do. She ran out right in the middle of the street in front of me. I was so very upset. No time to react....nothing. There was also oncoming traffic. I felt so bad for it. I stopped, and turned around and went back and parked along side the road and went over to her. She was already gone. I picked her up and carried her to the side of the road, petted her a bit and told her I was so sorry. There is a farm near there and so I'm wondering if it was a farm cat. There was no collar on her. It's just so upsetting. If anything appears in the newspaper that someone is missing a cat of that description, I'm going to call and talk to them. I feel I'd owe them that, and I would tell them that I grieved for her as if she were my own. I would have done anything in my power to avoid her, but just couldn't. I lost two cats on the road over the years and a dog not so many years ago. It brings back all that hurt and pain. I hope I did the right thing. I do feel good about going back to see her and do what I could. Sorry if this brings anyone down, but I just felt I had to tell this story.

It's so sad thinking that right now someone out there may be missing their pet who didn't come home tonight.

I am so sorry. I know that's upsetting to you and you need to get it off your chest. It's very sad. It was decent of you for stopping and going back to the little one. Let's just hope the sweet thing went quickly and didn't feel any pain.

I'm so sorry! I know how hard that is.
When I was a teen-ager I took my Dad for a ride in my convertable, because it was making a funny noise. A cat ran right out in front of me and I couldn't stop in time. I freaked out, turned around and my Dad took the poor thing off the road and had to drive my car home. I have not forgotten that feeling to this day.
There was nothing that you could do, sometimes things just happen out of our control.
*hugs*

I had the same experience last week, but I couldn't go back. I'm not even sure it was a cat, because it's so hard to be sure exactly where it happened in the dark.

I'm pretty sure it was a feral cat, no houses even in sight, but still...

Oh I feel so sorry for you, I nearly ran over one of my own cats once it just ran across the road in front of me. It was good that you went back checked and moved her, lets hope it was quick and she felt no pain

Over the river and through the woods...
I'm so sorry
Unfortunately there isn't anything you can do to avoid it if there is oncoming traffic without putting your life and others in danger. At least you went back to see if there was anything you could do. Since the kitty was already beyond help, I'm guessing it was pretty quick.

I've had to dodge barn cats on our road the last few weeks. I'm guessing they are looking for water since it's been so dry here lately. We make sure our barn cats have water available to them, but not everyone does.
