RAGDOLL KITTEN DIARRHEA for 8 weeks. tritrich?

please help with ANY advise...my kitten has had soft stool/diarrhea for about 8 weeks. he is 4 months old- and this started only after 2 days of having him. he has been treated for giardia and coccidia...(only tested + for giardia). he has been through 2 rounds of metronidazole, 1 round panacur, and 1 round of albon. He has been luckily gaining weight (still under 4 lbs)...but we just finished his albon and his loose stool is worse...his breeder finally admited she THINKS an adult cat she had for a SHORT period of time had TRITRICHOMONAS...her story has changed. I'm worried he has TRITRICH, but now need to wait another 2 weeks before having him tested (don't want albon to cause false negative). also- he has been on hills ID and royal canine IH. about 1 can/day...has now gone up to soft stool/diarrhea 3x/day.
he tested positive for coronavirus 1:1600, but shows no signs of FIP.

does ANYONE have experience with tritrich, rondizole, or persistant diarrhea. Please help me, I have been SO sad and stressed to see my baby like this.

While you're waiting for the medication to work its way out of its system, you might want to try a probiotic such as Bene-bac or even acidophilus. We give our cats 1/2 acidophilus tablet twice a day when they've got loose stools/diarrhea. Also, you can read about TF on this site: http://www.highgait.com/page/page/3485008.htm

Here are the results when I searched the health forum: http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sea...=2940512&pp=25

No experience, sorry, but to treat the symptom rather than a problem, probiotics (organic plain yogurt available in healthfood section w/ no sugar/additives) and organic pumpkin mixed a bit into the wet food may help short term.

thanks for your replies. i am giving him fortiflora every morning...doesn't seem to make a difference.
if he is eating a lot but going 3x/day...can he still absorb the nutrients he needs? i am worried he will begin to lose the weight he gained when on metronadizole..

When Daisy was treated for coccidia she had to have a probiotic, though I can't recall which one. Hope your kitten is better soon.

I am so sorry you are going through this, I can imagine how scared you are. My friend went through a similar ordeal last year with her two kittens. She rescued an orphaned feral kitten boy and took care of him for three months before she adopted another kitten from a local shelter. The second kitten, a little girl was infected at the shelter and became sick the second day she came home. She was diagnosed with T and within a few days the other kitten became sick. My friend opted for the Ronidazole treatment but she was terribly frightened because of the possible neurological effects. The kittens made it through fine with no neurological damage and no reoccurence of diarrhea.
Here is a link with excellent info (you may have found it already)

Good luck to you and healing vibes for your little girl

Tritrichomonas can only be treated with Ronidazole. It is an off label use of the medication. In my mind it would be worth any risk to eliminate the the parasite. Another thing to ask the Vet about is IBD. While rare in a four month old, it is possible. My Franklin has had it since he was about 6 months old. It took us nearly two more years to diagnose. Don't wait that long

thank you everyone for your posts. belly is going about 2-3/day...his stools are pretty formed, but still topped with unformed stool/ fresh blood/mucus. I am having him PCR tested for tritrich next week. if he tests positive- does anyone have advice re: treating him or letting it go away naturally? i've read in 90% of cases, it resolves itself within a year. given the toxicity of the medication, and the fact he is a single home cat and i will not be bringing another into our home... i am not sure what to do. if there is only a little blood/mucus and he is gaining weight, is it ok to wait? there doesnt seem to be much research on long term damage due to tri trich left untreated... help me with advise please!!

Belly, can you tell me how much your PCR test was? I'm worried my ragdoll kitten has T foetus and the doctors can't seem to figure out whats wrong..
