Poor Bugsy! Glad you were home and saw him. Please keep us posted and let us know how he's doing and what your regular vet says on Monday.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Hill's CD wet comes in seafood, if that's not a problem for him.

I don't know what you feed re: dry, and I know with the traveling an all wet diet is a PIA, but if he's got crystal problems, wet is really the best way to go (I'm sure you know that, but just in case).

I left a message to his vet, I am checking if he wants me to come in for a urinalysis, since that was not done, to check for crystals... I rather do that to be on the safe side...
Bugsy eats 2 meals of wet, and snacks on dry, but today I fed him wet only - that's what how it's going to be from now on... He eats Z/D. My pet sitter comes 2x a day, so it can be done when I travel...
I checked CD Fish, it has chicken fat... I discussed it with Sharky, and she said it is a 50/50 chance that he will have problems with it... I will try a couple of cans to see it - if he doesn't have problems, I will switch him to it, or at least do 1/2 Z/D and 1/2 C/D.
Thanks for letting me know

Poor thing is so traumatized of all the meds he is taking now
I just hope he doesn't have Crystals - at least he is not in and out ot the box anymore, looks like he is doing better... He is able to pee, but still dripping blood... My poor little baby

Oh poor Bugsy. What a rough day - I'm so glad you were home with him. Hopefully it's not crystals and he'll start to heal up soon. Sending lots of healing and big
for both of you.

Ok, so I spoke to his vet today, and he feels it is not necessary to bring him in just yet; he feels the treatment he is in is appropriate and as long as he is doing better, it is the right course to be in. He said this is the antibiotic he would use also, and it is too soon to judge... It has been only a couple of days. He received the paperwork from the ER vet, and all checks out well per his judgment.
Bugsy IS doing better, so he says to wait and not put him through more stress; to call him Wednesday to discuss.
He is not going in and out of the box all the time anymore, is peeing somewhat normally (a little less in volume), is playing, hanging out with the other kitties, eating, not drinking as he is eating only wet food, but that's normal, and being his normal self...
He doesn't look as though he is in too much pain... He does lick himself a little more than normal, but the ER vet said it would take a full 2 days for the antibiotics to kick in, which will be tonight...
Talking to his vet made me feel a whole lot better...
I hope he will be fine now

Just read this and am hoping Bugsy continues to improve too!

I am also relived to hear your vet's judgment on the treatment - because it sounds very much like the treatment we received for Teppo just recently. I had my doubts because it was the first time, and somehow some parts of it were so much like 'guesstimation'. Teppo did not have bleeding like poor Bugsy but he was also very near to blocking and it was heartwrenching.

We also got Clavomox and our vet indicated it is the first line to try. Unfortunately, it did not work with Teppo. I would think you'd see in a day or two if it is the right one for Bugsy. Teppo went downhill pretty much the third day on it after it initially eased his symptoms.

I am more encouraged about our vet now that you say your vet did not seem to push for the urinalysis at this point. I found it weird then. We could not get a sample on the emergency visit either because Teppo's bladder was all shrunken and empty, and his belly was very sore. We had to get it done when Clavomox failed but there was no sign of bacteria at that point. I think the vet was not really wanting to do the sampl after the antibiotics were started since they would screw up the results for anything else but the crystals part. Just like you I thought I wanted the info anyway.

Let us know how Bugsy does. Teppo is currently trying the Cosequin supplement to keep his parts supple. That is what was actually our vet's first suggestion for 'treatment' after he saw Teppo's results. Vet though it was most likely stress-related.

Had a visit with my vet today - didn't take Bugsy with me, but wanted to sit down with him, take the X-ray for him to take a look at, and discuss Bugsy's situation in length.
First let's talk about the X-Ray: The ER vet had thought his kidney looked a little weird on the first x-ray, but on the second one, it came completely normal... She thought it might be a matter of positioning during the procedure, but she wanted me to take it to him to discuss. He said it looked normal, really could not see anything out of the ordinary, and that it didn't look like I should be concerned.
On to the UTI: He thinks that what he has is cystitis/inflammation brought on by stress, which does make a LOT of sense.
I left to Florida Monday, and my friend Donna, stayed here in my house through Thursday - she was anew person, who he had never seen... She got here right before I left for a whole week. When I left in the morning he was acting absolutely strange, completely freaked out... I had never seen him so stressed like that in my life... He kept running to me and away from me completely confused, as though he didn't know who I was... Maybe because I slept on the couch and she on my bed with him... I don't know...
That week he spent alone with Donna and Kelly, the pet sitter. They are both huuuuge pet lovers.... but were not me. I got home Friday night, and disaster stroke Saturday night. It was a complete week of stress.
The feliway was late to get in the mail, so only got here on Wednesday or Thursday...
Anyway... The vet also said what makes he thinks this is cystitis/inflammation, is the fact that he is urinating blood. The antibiotic, he says, is not to cure an infection at this point, but to prevent an opportunistic infection that might occur due to the bloke capillaries on his bladder/urinary tract, so Clavamox will do just fine. The plan is, if he continues to pass blood by Wednesday, he will go in for a steroid shot to bring the inflammation down.
The vet main concern is his future bladder health -he said he is not too concerned about this episode, but since he does have immune mediator disorders, such as his stomatitis and IBD, he might be prone to cystitis as well - he NEEDS to be in a bladder health diet.
I discussed with him the fact of Bugsy being allergic to chicken, and he said this is secondary now - his bladder is more important, as this can kill him, and can kill him fats if he gets blocked.
So.... We agreed to try the CD seafood wet first and see how he does on it...
I bought some to see if he likes it and how he reacts to it... crossing my fingers all is going to be well...
I also read a lot of good reviews on Cosequin being good on preventing cystitis and UTIs, so I am going to add that to his diet as well... (Thanks piikki for the lead)
I now need to work on putting Lucky on a schedule so I don't have dry food laying around and can feed them all 2 meals a day - I have some time to do that, thankfully!
Anyways... please send vibes for him to continue to improve until Wednesday so we don't need to go back in

Whew! I think indeed he is!
He just gave me the gift of a normal completely blood free pee

Now we have a couple of other problems...

One of the problems is a bad diarrhea from the antibiotic; I will start him on Bene-bac as soon as he finishes it. With the diarrhea his bottom is quite sore, as he can not completely clean himself (chubby), and the parts that he can clean, he overgroomed due to the pain from the UTI. So his bottom is a little dirty, and quite red... I tried my best to clean, but he complained soooo much of pain... I tried washing it, but he freaked... I can't stress him due to his UTI... Kind of complicated.
I do have a trimmer here that I am already charging, and tomorrow I will try to do a hygienic shave on him - I saw his vet doing it and it looked very very easy. I will also put a thin layer of neosporin on it to see if it helps...
My poor baby is all wrong right ow

When you do the clip, make sure you don't touch the blade of the clipper to his anus. (Just a helpful tip from a pet groomer
)

Poor buddy! I hope he feels better soon!

Yay, normal pee! That is always great to hear for uti cats!

His tummy issue might be from changing foods too, combined with the anibiotic. Does probiotics not work with anibiotics? Or do they cancel out the anibiotic? Didn't know about this, glad you mentioned it. I forgot to meniton that Clavamox is what my vet uses for uti/crystal issues too, and when that isn't enough he uses Baytril & Pred. I think it is common for vet to use Clavamox for uti.

Poor fellow is having a time of it with his bum-bum.
I'd do the clip and put ointment on it, it will help sooth & protect it from getting further irritated. Just be careful with the clippers, you can cut skin with them. No idea if you have clipped a cat before, if not you could look up some videos on youtube.

I hope he gets over his tummy issues soon! And the uti's better stay away from sweet Bugsy boy!!!!

Poor Bugsy, let's hope his tummy problem does not get worse
That's what Teppo got from the Clavomox first, diarrhoea. Then he lost his appetite and went downhill losing 5 oz of weight in couple of days which is quite a lot for a big eater like him.

I am certainly not a nutrition specialist in any way but probiotics should not cancel antibiotics, and you should be able to give them concurrently. It's just that it can be kinda useless as the antibiotics keep killing the good bacteria you are trying to establish with them. I have not used BeneBac but if Bugsy starts having problems being interested in food, I know all my boys love the Purina Fortiflora if you have not tried it (http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CDsQ8wIwAw#) It works like seasoning, and is great aid for sickly cats.

Teppo was greatly pumped up after he moved to Baytril and got a steroid shot with B-vitamin. Let's hope Bugsy wil just have a little bump in the road with upset tummy. It certainly sounds better that his pee volume is already up. It took Teppo 2 weeks to get his pees in order.

When Zimmie had blood in her urine this month (which was caused by FORLS), she was prescribed Clavamox. It worked perfectly for her. Best wishes for Bugsy's speedy recovery.
