hello
am in need of some help with my cat
i took him to vet on wednesday because he was showing signs of UTI as there was blood in his urine so he was given a double injection of antibiotics and pain relief

he was also sent home with 12 x synulox tabs to be taken 2 times a day

after his injection he stopped bleeding but today i have noticed the bleeding has returned

i would just like to know if this is normal to stop and start bleeding in between as he hasnt fully completed his course of antibiotics yet

still 8 tabs left

am just a little worried hes not getting better

his flow of urine is normal tho as the vet warned me his uretha could get blocked so am watching out for this

can anyone help me with this

thanks

So he has only been on the anti bios 2 days. Right. Well, I would ask the vet. Can you call him?

Any info you get here can't beat what the dr. will say. Although, being Saturday, maybe you could leave a message with his service.

Why do these things always happen on weekends?

Someone with better info than I should come along soon.

Did they do a urinalysis on him or just go off your description of the symptoms? If they didn't do a urinalysis, you might want to get one done on Monday. That way you'll know if you're dealing with a plain UTI or if there are crystals present in his urine.

Other than that, I'm not sure what to tell you. There are several on the board who have lots of experience with UTIs and hopefully they'll be along soon.

I'd leave a message for the vet - if the bleeding increases, or if he shows any signs of discomfort in the box or blockage, what did you vet say to do over the weekend? I'm assuming there's either an e-vet or some other after hours practice your vet works with? If not, look up phone numbers and addresses, just in case.

Is he acting ok in the box, though? Active and eating well? Nice normal pees as far as you can tell? And why does this always happen over a weekend!

This is just a guess, but occasional slight bleeding as he recovers may be due to the urethra still being irritated. I would call the vet first chance you get to see what he says, but meanwhile don't panic if he seems to be getting better.
