Kitten and older cats

Hey everyone!

So we found a 2 month old kitten in the middle of the road about 3 weeks ago and instantly fell in love (named him Mercy). We've taken him to the vet to have his tests and shots and are currently waiting for the results to his fecal test since the vet suspects that he was worms.

He currently has his own bedroom thats set up with everything a kitten could need.We let him out during the day when I'm around to watch him and he gets lots of play time with my self or my boyfriend during the day but we put him back in the bedroom to sleep, since there is nothing he can destroy or hurt him self with in there.

We have 2 older cats though. Mem is our 2 year old siamese mix and Lilith is a 1 year old tortie. So his introduction is to them is going well and he gets about a hour of very supervised play time with the girls in the evening. He loves to play with Lilith and Mem is warming up to him but does not want to play with him like Lilith does. There is still some hissing and sometimes a swat or two from the girls when he gets too wild.

The problem now is that we are moving from a 4 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom apartment. So little Mercy will lose his bedroom. We can still set him up in a bedroom and make it as kitten safe as possible but we were wondering when we can let him lose around the house with the girls with out having to watch them like a hawk and if he is too young for that still?

Of course this wont happen till the worm issue is solved, but this has been a concern since we are moving into smaller quarters.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to get it all out there! Thank you for your time!

As long as he's been dewormed, they should be okay together. With moving, everyone is going to be stressed out, so be sure you have a feliway plug-in going in your new apt for about a day before you move the cats in. As long as there's no bloodshed or extremely aggressive interaction, you can let them all have free run of the house. If you still want to keep him separated at night or while you're gone, you can either leave him in the bathroom or get one of those big wire crates (4'x4'x4' or something like that) to put him in. It will be big enough for a small litter box, food, water, bedding, and a couple of toys.

We just got his test back today and it was negative for worms! So we are gonna go ahead and let them be together when we move. We'll still keep an area ready if any of them need time apart.

He could still have tapeworms, so be on the lookout for those. Tapeworms don't show up on a fecal. Isn't that great?!?

Oh boy, tape worms. Well he has to go back in another week to have a recheck for ear mites, so I suppose if the vet is still not happy with his weight then, we'll have to look into that one perhaps.

Thanks for the advice! I'm gonna be picking up a feli-way plug in and some more scratch posts for the new apartment.
