Its like he knew...

So Parker belonged to a friends brother. He was stuck in a basement for 2 years, was never brushed (he had terrible mats on his legs), hardly given water and was fed ONLY if the guy remembered. I was there one day and went to check on the cats as I often did and found Parker hiding in a box, panting, drooling and very ill looking, me being the softy I am, started crying...I asked my friend to take me to the vet with him, since the guy had better things to do (jerk)...Turns out he had an URI and was VERY sick. He stayed for 3 days and came back. I convinced my parents to let me have him and they agreed. He's had a few trips to the vet for various things, most times it was semi serious...but I found each time I took him to the vet, it was like he knew I was helping. He got more and more attached to me. The first trip from the URI, he would not leave me alone for days after that. He just followed me, cried when I shut him out of a room and slept snuggled up to me every night.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? I swear they know who really loves them and cares for them (and spends lots of money on them)

Except for Pixie, all our cats are rescues in one way or another. Yes, they are very attached to us and they definitely know that their lives have improved because of us.

Oh absolutely! They do know AND remember who treat them well and who did not.

First of all thank you for rescuing Parker from such an abusive life! You are his angel, and he will be yours as well. Most rescued animals are so grateful to receive love, affection, food and water....just the basics that any life deserves. I think you have found a soul mate

I think I did too. To be honest, I hated cats before (don't hit me, hehehe) It wasn't until I met Parker that I started appreciating them and all their quirks. I really do love him

Oh yes hun, you and Parker were certainly meant to be!

With all of the kitties that I foster for the shelter, almost every single one I have brought in has been SO loving, affectionate and thankful. I think they absolutely know when you are trying to help them and they love us for it.

Aww that story made my eyes tear up! Thank you for saving him and your parents for letting you take him in!

We just rescued a kitten out of the middle of the road. Turns out he had ear mites and needed treatment for them. The vet had to get in there and give them a really good cleaning but our kitten was very cooperative about it. Even the vet said "I think he knows we are trying to help him."

Welcome to the dark side of being a kitty lover! You unlock this door with the kitty of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into the Kitty Zone!

It takes patience to be a cat owner. I honestly find dogs to be easier to care for at times. Outdoor cats come and go and don't seem to care too much where you are or what you're doing...but indoor cats are so needy, for the most part.
Our oldest cat, not so much. Shes at the age where she just wants to be fed, given a treat here and there, the occasional pat and comfy spot to sleep.

I've been stressing out over Parkers FHS symptoms, especially since he's been hissing the odd time too. (He is not a hisser!). I think my stress is rubbing off and making it worse. I feel so guilty lol. Funny how they become like children...I don't even have any kids but if having a cat is ANY indication of what its like, I think I might wait. :P

Tea Cake, thank you for saving the little kitty from the road I bet he does appreciate your kindness as much as Parker
