This is not so much as a venting post as one that's more for fun. Let's talk about thirst and what you go for first when trying to quench it.

For whatever reason, I'm so thirsty today. My GI tract is slowly returning to normal and my food intake is more resembling what it usually is rather than a mad dash to consume anything that will provide nourishment and be bland enough for my sensitive stomach. So, it stands to reason that, as I've added in new, more "normal" foods, I am more thirsty. Also, when I was sick, my hunger and thirst cues were thrown off and I felt neither -- so, as annoying as it is to constantly feel like I need something in my mouth, this is a good thing as it shows that I am coming around and getting healthier day by day.

As I took my meds just now, I realized how thirsty I was. I literally gulped down my glass of water. And, as I write this, I'm thinking dreamily about a nice, cold glass of milk before bed. It's funny, I go for different things depending on why I'm thirsty. If it's a meal, I usually go for water or iced tea. And, during the day, I drink water, iced tea, or gatorade -- rarely will I go for diet pop (unless I'm eating out or eating something spicy). When exercising or doing anything where I need actual rehydrating, it's always water or gatorade. But, most other times, when I'm thirsty, oddly enough, I want milk! I've always loved milk, but I don't know many other individuals who drink it as I do or who would reach for it when feeling thirst. Sure, milk is good with some chocolate or cookies, but I love it on its own as well. Even when I would eat nothing else (when restricting my intake), I would drink milk. I guess I'm just funny like that.

So, that all being said, what do you reach for when you're thirsty? I steer clear of alcohol and other drinks, but feel free to be honest. I'm just curious how varied individuals' taste is when it really comes to thirst.

Water or tea with a nice slice of some type of fresh citrus.

Water with lemon juice in it, otherwise orange or fruit punch + berry gatorade. I like soda for the flavor, rather than as a thirst quencher, it tends to make me MORE thirsty rather than not.

Iced tea without lemon is my drink of choice. Im steering clear of Kool-Aid right now cuz the other night I had a glass of tropical punch flavor and was eating tacos and it didnt mix well and ended up ruining my dinner. I dont drink our water either cuz it tastes like plastic. Every once in a blue moon Ill eat something that makes me crave milk like crazy but I hate the taste of milk so I have to have a glass of it with something super chocolately and really rich. No alcohol though.

I drink A LOT of water....thats usually what I go for first.

But with one set of meds, it leaves me craving the carbonation of a pop which I try to limit to one a day.

If its the weekend and I have no driving to do, and I have some, I'll have a lite vodka cooler along with a load of water.

All of my meds cause dry mouth, I carry 2L water with me no matter where I go, and gum just in case I run out of drinks.

I dearly love drinking an ice-cold high-octane Pepsi. Most of the time, though, when I'm really thirsty, nothing works like a glass filled with slivered ice and cold water.

DH drinks a lot of iced tea (I make it with a little sugar, not a lot). And he's a big milk drinker, too (skim milk only).

If I am really thirsty, I'll usually gulp down a pint of water. During the day I tend to drink water, several diet sodas, sometimes juice or powerade/gatorade. But plain water is best for when I NEED hydration. It goes down the easiest. And I prefer room temp to cold, though we have a Brita pitcher in the fridge cos our pipes are old and crusty and I'm not a fan of LB water. Funny, I loved Bethlehem tap water, I even miss it sometimes!

This morning I woke up around 7:15AM and decided I had to go to the grocery store and get some juice; water or coffee would not suffice. So I got Cranberry Pomegranate, and mixed it with lime sparkling mineral water. MMMM!

I'm not a fan of milk, never was, but my mom used to make me drink it with dinner when I was a kid. Ick. BF drinks a lot of milk, he will drink milk with dinner ,most times, and when he's really thirsty, he'll go for a pint of milk when I go for a pint of water.

I hate being thirsty almost as much as I hate being cold. The only thing that quenches my thirst is cold tap water. And, did you know, cold water is absorbed much more quickly than water that is not cold?

I usually go for water. If I'm at home, I have a fruit juice I love that I go for. I really need to cut back though because it's loaded with calories and isn't 100% fruit juice

Coming back from a run, I go immediately for the Gatorade. Water is the next best thing. I also love peach tea flavored Crystal Lite. During the summer I was drinking alot of that!

Of course, there are always adult beverages.
But I won't start in on one until I quench my thirst with a glass of water first. If I start guzzling a vodka tonic because I'm thirsty.....that would be really bad.

When I'm really thirsty, the only thing I want is a big glass of ice water
Sometimes I like adding a few slices of fresh cut cucumber to a pitcher of ice water or adding lemon/lime peels....adds a little flavor and it's sooo refreshing!

(I also love sweet tea, orange juice, gatoraid, and apple juice- all on ice)

When I'm thirsty I go for the Diet Pepsi, I never drink just plain water. I have always hated plain water.
