This was posted on the Petmate Products page on FB today. I think we can all understand this as we've probably all been rescued by one of our pets.

I rescued a human today.

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively
into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I
wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.
...
As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had
in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked
today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someoneâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship.

A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well. Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

Awww that is soo sweet!
It honestly made me think back to the end of August when I adopted my sweet new dog Macy from the Humane Society! My other dog Ranger adores the companionship Macy has given him, and I couldn't have been "rescued" by a more wonderful little girl!

Thanks for sharing that sweet message with all of us

No rat terrier to my knowledge; I suppose her picture in my siggy makes her look small. I'll have to post some new ones of her soon! I actually got a Wisdom Panel Canine DNA test to see what breeds she's mixed with (mainly for health reasons since she's special needs). I'll be interested to see what the results say! (I think she's a mix of a few mixes - Definitely black lab/ shepherd...possibly border collie or doberman too. Who knows!
She's right at 50lbs right now and you can still see all of her ribs. She's got about 15-20 more pounds to gain, so I'm working on getting her to a healthy weight.

There are so many of us that need to be rescued! I know that if it wasn't for my furbabies I wouldn't be getting through things right now. Can't wait until my new place is finished enough to have them with me all the time.

That's very touching, and really illustrates the devotion a shelter pet can bring to his/her new human.

I feel the same way.

It's obvious this story is about a dog. I wish there was one about a cat. My grandfather always tells the story about how he chose his cat at the shelter. I forget some of the details but basically the cat chose him. He put his hand up against the cage and the cat rubbed her head against his hand and at that moment Grandpa had to have that cat. The cat is a moody, prissy, little Bi***, who snarls at anyone else that touches her. So the two of them were obviously made for each other. I wish I had a cat version of the posted story because my grandfather's cat is ill (she's 14). I don't know how serious it is but he would be heartbroken if anything happened to that cat. If there was a cat version of the posted story, I think he would appreciate having it when the cat crosses the Rainbow Bridge. Unfortunately, I'm not poetic enough to write a cat version.
