I just had 4 kittens spayed---my 3 bottle babies (Foxy, Pixie, and Bunny) and my brother's newest kitty, Charlie. They're all about 5 or 6 months old. They were spayed yesterday afternoon and stayed overnight at the vet's office. I picked them up around noon today. I checked their stitches and everything looked fine. So I went back to work for the afternoon shift, and when I got home I checked everyone again.
And Pixie has broken her stitches! About 1/3 of them are gone, and it's done in a running stitch, so the rest will unravel eventually. The incision still looks appropriately closed, nothing is gaping open. I put a bandaid over the incision to keep the rest of the stitches from unraveling, and put a tube sock on her so she can't pick at it.
I've had dozens of cats spayed and none have ever messed with their stitches. Is this an emergency? Will it definitely need to be re-stitched, or will it heal up OK as long as I can keep her from messing with it any more? I'd hate to have her put under again for re-stitching. I guess I'll have to call the vet in the morning.
Anyone else have experience with this?
