My cat has been eating a very strange and bad diet due to food aversion (another story) consisting of baby food, treats, and fish. He used to be regular but has gone from having stool everyday to every other day. The vet said that was ok. It seems to be gradually getting less frequent and last week he went for 3 days one time. Right now he is going on 3.5 to 4 days without stool. However, he does not look uncomfortable and I don't see him straining at the litter box. I spoke with the vet and she said she is not overly concerned and would wait another day or two before intervening.

It seems to me that I can't let him go on for much longer. How can I help him evacuate?

How can I help him keep regular? I used to add Benefiber to his baby food but his bowl movement went from one to two days, and the stool got harder. May be that was too much fiber? Slippery elm bark did the same thing. Will probiotics help in this regard?
