prayers and vibes for my Jack (aka Rub Slut)

He's 8 now, and has apparently gotten really good at hiding a nasty UTI. To the point of there being a build up of 'sludge' in his bladder. I had to scrimp and max out what cards I had to pay the vet bill today. He's sequestered in the bathroom for tonight with special food and water and one litterbox, clean. If he can't get any pee out by morning, I may have to get him over to Dove Lewis for surgery... life or death here. I can't lose him. But I can't afford the **** surgery. They gave me a number to call for a charity organization that may be able to help. they pulled three large syringes full out of his bladder.

God... he was all bouncy and playing two nights ago... attacking my hand under the covers... then *slam* he's throwing up and is so blocked he can't pee... I can't deal with him being in pain...

So sorry to hear that bad news. I hope the vet can work with you for payment, and I hope your Jack can get fixed and better real soon!

Oh no, I'm so sorry -- many vibes that he wakes up in the morning all better!

Thanks gang.... I guess I've been so focused on getting JoJo's wheat allergy under control, that Jack has maybe suffered. I'm wondering if my own (slightly selfish, since i had little time at home to prep wet food) recent run of a few days of just giving them dry hurt him in all of this...

the vet says a grain free diet isn't good for UTI prone cats? I'm not 100% sure why that's so... I may start a thread over in health on this... although, I am reading others' dealings with similar situations. I don't get why she said this though... cats are carnivores... less or no grains should be good... I do a predominately wet diet anyway... some dry... as a snack and a little with the wet.

I just need to get him through this.

I'll be calling Animal Aid in the morning to ask for money in case of surgery. If he hasn't peed, he'll quite likely need it.

When i went in to use the bathroom myself, and see how he was doing, he was 'mrrrowing' and rubbing and begging for petting... he just can't pee... he's in pain and stressed, but still lovey... it's not his time, da**it.

After coming home from work and dealing with the vet and all, I had a belated birthday dinner with my sister and her boyfriend (visiting)... and she did her usual BS of laying guilt trips on me and being a royal *****. Thanks, big sis.... not. So that added to my stress and frustration...

I'm not giving up on my baby boy.

Good luck, I hope he doesn't need the surgery. I have one that needed it (Bear actually) and one that didn't (so far).

Sharky agrees that grain free isn't good for urinary issues, I forgot why though.

I am sooo sorry about Jack! I hope he is able to urinate, and recover. Hopefully you will be able to get help if he needs surgery.

I'm praying for dear Jack!!

I will say a prayer for Jack. Poor boy, I have dealt with the urinary nasties as well.

Does your vet take care credit?

Poor Jack. He's in my thoughts and prayers.

Tons and tons of mega super duper coming your way for both you and Jack. I hope he is feeling better.

In regards to the grain free being bad for UTI prone cats..My vet said the same thing and I was mixing junk food with TOTW which helped my poo issue 2 and Fatman hasnt had a problem with that diet (knock on wood its been a year) I now have them on a limited grain diet (4Health from Tractor Supply) and they are all doing good still.

Oh, I hope he'll be OK and won't need surgery! He's in my thoughts. And a for you!

Oh, Amanda!!!

for Jack. I think the reason grain-free isn't good for UTI cats is that the grain gluten - I heard corn gluten - helps balance the ph of the urine. I think Sharky said that.

Poor Jack. I hope pulls through OK and pees on his own. We've dealt with chronic UTI with Pushy so I know how stressful it is, and how awful when they cry out in pain and can't pee.
Mega vibes for Jack!

Yes, but I have over 30K in my own medical bills that are unpaid, and no way to pay them... my credit stinks worse than an uncleaned litterbox after a week. He had three UTI's before, was on meds, cleared up with Wysong uretic food. Problem though is that JoJo has a wheat allergy and Wysong Uretic has wheat...

Well, the wet food they've been getting the most has corn in it... it's Trader Joe's cans... they're affordable (a plus for me), and have no wheat (a plus for JoJo), but i haven't been able to make it over there lately, so I picked up some Whole Foods store brand (365) cans, also no wheat... and they've been having that the last few days... along with a little grain free dry (BG/Before Grain). I usually get about a case or two's worth of TJ's cans and a couple maybe 15 cans or so of grain free wet from a local natural pet supply... and then mix them up...

If I get him through this, maybe we'll just stick with TJ's food... they both like it... with the occasional TikiCat can (they love that). All the grocery store brands have wheat in them...

About to go in and check on him for the morning...

Thanks everyone,
Amanda

Well, he didn't pee... he did poop a little... and toss a bit of a hairball (with a little food)...

The wall I was afraid was going to hit has hit, though... the vet gave me a number for Animal Aid, a local non-profit that acts as a rescue but also does loans for low income folks who need emergency treatment for their pet... well, I called and they say in their outgoing message that they're not accepting any new loan requests... I left a message anyway, but if they can't help at all... I'm going to have to send him over the RB... I don't know if he's ready... I don't want to see him in pain, but this was so strange that it was kinda sudden. He was all bouncy and playful Sunday night, but then a total 180...

I'm freaking hyperventilating right now...

I emailed the local pet psychic a few minutes ago and she emailed me right back. I saw her in January and she talked to both of the cats... so I sent her a pic of Jack and asked about whether he's okay with crossing... she responded right away and said he is and is in a lot of pain and that it's affecting his whole body right now... so I just need someone with me... I called and left a message with a friend who I used to volunteer with at the shelter... I hope she calls back soon...

I'm sorry to hear this about Jack. I hope you will find help financially to help Jack get surgery if that's what he needs. Sending lots of to you and him.

Oh hun, I am so sorry, poor Jack! Lots of vibes coming his way!
Try mixing apple cider vinegar with his food. When Wessie couldn't pee, that's what we gave him, and he is recovered. Please try this, as it does work! Hope he gets better!
Oh, and palpate his stomach. Sometimes this releases blockage. Keep us updated!

What a horrible situation!!!! I'm sending major your way and hoping for a good outcome. Maybe you could call the vet clinic again and ask if they know of any other resources you could contact for emergency financial help.

Can I ask that this thread be closed. Jack went over the Bridge at Noon.

Thank you everyone... I just hated seeing him in so much excruciating pain and knowing it would probably reoccur again and again... I just couldn't bear to decrease his quality of life... I know he's playing and pouncing on other cats across the bridge.
