My cats live outside. Because of all the rain we have had with the tropical storn last week, the fire ants are coming up all over my yard. It is usually not a problem because we sprinkle stuff on them. But this afternoon I notice there is a large hill of them beside my cats large sand box/litter box. Anyone know a way to get rid of them without using anything toxic. Thanks

They will if your cats aren't smart enough to stay out of the nest. I've accidentally stepped in one myself years ago in Louisiana (we don't have them in Oklahoma, thankfully) and the response from them was so quick that I don't believe they'd stop to figure out what they were even attacking.

You can DE the area arond nest, use parasitic flies sold specifically for fire ant control, or bait the nest with a bucket on top of it to keep the cats away. With the first option you'd just get the ants that come above ground - when it started bothering them they'd simply make another exit or move to another part of the yard. The second would, again, take out any ants that come up. The third choice has an option of getting the queen or at least more of the nest when the ants carry the bait down.
