Normal Behavior?

I'm a first time kitten owner. Kirby is about 7 weeks old and was rescued after (we believe)his mother abandoned it. He's been with us for about 2 weeks now. Very loving cat, very playful, still a little shy however. I have an appt to bring him in to the vet next week to get his first vaccinations. In the 2 weeks we've had him, he's been pretty quiet, only meowing a few times when we say his name, or talk to him. Over the last couple days, he's been a lot more vocal. His behavior and actions are all the same way they've been, but he's meowing a lot more. Not hissing, or negative in any way. I think it's just because he's becoming more comfortable with myself, and the surroundings of being inside. I just wanted to check that this is normal activity, or to make sure everything is as well as it should be. Thanks

Well I see you're from MN too, perhaps that has something to do with it?

Congratulations on your new kitty!! Don't forget to post pics in the picture forum so we can see him. We LOVE pictures!!

It's possible that it is from being more comfortable in his new home. He's learned that when he makes certain noises he gets attention. We have a 5 month old kitten that we've had from about 9-10 wks old and he's not extremely vocal unless it's feeding time OR we put him in his carrier.

Yes, this is perfectly normal cat behavior! Wessie has become more or less vocal at different times. Usually it just because he wants us to come play with him or feed him, so maybe now your new kitten wants to be around you more! Congrats on adopting him, and please post pics!

Update:
Kirby had his first vet experience today. Everything checked out perfectly, and he couldn't be more healthy. Very, very well behaved at the vet.
