Sven and Callie went in today for their 6 month senior exams. We were mainly concerned for Sven, since he's a "kidney cat". Dr. Christina said he looks really good, considering. He's lost more weight since March, but he's actually gained about 1/2 lb in the last few weeks. I know this because we weigh all our furbabies once a week (since Darko is on a diet and we need to know how he's progressing with that).

Anyway, Sven's BUN is 63, up from 56 in March, and his creatinine (sp) is within normal range. She isn't too worried about that slight rise, because he was slightly dehydrated (5%), which she said could account for that. We've decided to start weekly sub q's, did the first one there in the office yesterday, and he did great! Didn't even flinch, so I'm hoping he'll react the same way at home. We had his BP checked, and it appeared to be within normal range too. (I say "appeared" because they check it about 8 times and take an average. Two readings were high, but the rest were ok, so Dr. Christina said she would not want to treat for high BP yet, but we'll take another reading in 4 months. In the meantime, I just need to try to continue to get Sven to eat! We're currently experimenting with canned foods, and so far the only thing he'll eat is the gravy off of the new Fancy Feast extra gravy foods, which aren't really kidney friendly, but at least they're putting some weight on him. Plus, he's decided he really likes Darko's high protein, low carb dry food, which is REALLY bad for him. I told Dr. Christina about it, and she said some food is better than none, and to just try, try, try to find something better that he likes. So, the quest continues.

Callie, on the otherhand, got a marvelous bill of health! Yah. She's the only one we have no worries about

Yes, we used to do fluids with another of our RB kitties, so it shouldn't be a problem, although it's been years!
