I noticed a few days ago that Gus has a slight (brownish) discoloration on the split of skin between his nose and lips. It's no bigger than the size of a grain of rice -- if not smaller. At first I thought it might have been dried food, but after holding a damp cloth next to it for a while to soften it up, it didn't really do anything.
I had Liz (his sister) at the vet today for a checkup (we've been dealing with a very scary unknown issue with her that it looks like she's going to survive) and I mentioned Gus's nose to the vet. She instructed us to keep an eye on it and let her know if it gets bigger or worse.
My question is two-fold:
1. Has anyone else had a cat who has had a similar issue? It's almost scab-like, but I can't tell for sure (he's not too cooperative).
2. Should I pester the vet with my concerns that, if this is an infection, it might spread to his sister who shares the same food/water bowls. (She's currently on prednisone, flagyl, and amoxi drops due to her mystery illness that almost killed her, and I don't know how compromised her immune system may be now.)
Obviously, I want to make sure Gus is okay and fixed up, but it would be horrible to lose Liz to an infection that might have come from Gus.
I've called my vet many, many, many times in the past week about Liz and her treatment, so I'm afraid they're going to think I'm crazy if, now that Liz is on the mend, I'm fussing about Gus.
Ah, for a full week of no kitty worries...
