What sorts of things can cause liver failure?

My roomates cat(Maverick) peed on her shorts. At first we thought this was a territorial behavior because of China Doll being allowed out of my bedroom, but then we noticed the pee had shiny crystals in it. I knew that was at the least a uti, and we took him in immediately to the vet, hes been there since 7am and they are now confirming that both of his kidneys have failed..

The vet asked my roomate if she knows if he got into anything, and the only thing we can think of is maybe the bug spray that we use to treat the condo every 3 months? It never bothered him before though according to my roomate, she's been using it for 4 years.

Does anyone know what other substances might cause the kidney failure?

He's the kitty that pees on other animals, correct?
Isn't he a fairly young? I can't imagine she'd have been at school long enough for him to grow from kitten to senior kitty.
Make a list of everything he could have possibly ingested, including his own cat food. Double check to make sure nothing has been recalled for anything serious.

THE BUG SPRAY can have cumulative effects, or he could have eaten a saturated with spray bug. It is poison after all.

Hmm. On that line of thought. What sort of things have been used on him to treat fleas - if ever. Even ones like Advantage and Revolution do carry this risk as they are insecticides.

Other than then bug spray we can't find anything he could have gotten into. He's 3.5 years old and has been healthy otherwise. Yes its the same cat that pees on other cats
weirdo..

His litter hasn't been changed, but he's allergic to a lot of foods and our other roomates dog ate his felidae so he was on a lower quality brand (no clue which one, I'll ask his owner) for about two weeks.

He's not treated with flea preventative because she never lets him outside, he pretty much is king of the condo and never leaves her room unless she is home. There is a small grill on the back condo. She was eating breakfast out there a few mornings ago. Maybe he chewed on some of the charcoal?

Its possible he ate a bug saturated with spray, we had wasps on one window and one had gotten inside but we never saw it again. And our other roomate had an infestation of beetles coming in her window...

Im also going to have our water tested. I filter it for China and Moonpie, but Georgia and Mavericks water have never been filtered, it's been straight from the tap. Maverick is starting on filtered water as of today when I mentioned this to my roomate.

One of the weird things is that he hasn't been acting sick. He's home now, and other than throwing up a couple of times in the past week (which was assumed stress from introducing China to the condo) and peeing on her shorts he's been normal, talkative, and playful.

They'll have test results in a couple of days. China Doll has been peeing fine herself, and the dogs are acting and peeing normally, so I think whatever it is that caused it is either no longer accessible or is in Mavericks room.

What about Maverick's teeth? What shape are they in?

(I didn't remember that one until brushing my own cats teeth a little while ago)

I'm not sure.. I never see Maverick unless he's trying to pee on my cat or running after his owner across the condo. I've lived here for 8 weeks and I've never touched him, the closest I've been is probably 4 feet (because he didnt see me)
