Morning all

this one is going to be about books turned into films.....

Would you rather read the book or watch the film?

For some i prefer the book, like the Harry Potter books, but I like to watch the Stephen King movies

It depends on the book and the movie. With Harry Potter I prefer to watch the movies then read the books. If I read the books first then Im disappointed in the movie and I love Harry Potter. I do prefer reading Gone With The Wind rather than watching the movie because the movie seems so...fake...sometimes. I dont prefer one over the other media wise but I def want both. I do need to get the Twilight books because Ive seen the 1st two movies now Im ready to read the books.

Usually I prefer the book, and let my imagination carry me. I'm usually disappointed in a movie version of a book, unless I gear myself up first. Also, alot depends on the director for me. I know Rob Reiner will take great care with a Stephen King book, for instance.

I was amazed at the movie version of The Road. It was so faithful to the book, and was exactly the way I pictured it. Also, the Swedish movie of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was really good, I thought, and it was really faithful to the essence of the book.

I'd rather read the book. When I'm reading, I'm working up a scenario in my mind as I read and, to me, it's more fun that way.

OTOH, if I've read the book first, then I'm usually disappointed in the movie. Except for the Harry Potter movies; they are amazing. And after the first HP movie came out, I went back and reread the books that I had. The only problem now is that Daniel Radcliffe IS Harry Potter! I cannot envision anybody else in that role.

I read the Lord of the Rings trilogy years ago and was excited when I heard about the movies. They lived up to the books in many ways. I love watching those movies.

As for Stephen King, the only movie that really scared the crap out of me was Christine. The rest of them, in my mind, weren't bad at all. I'm a huge Stephen King fan, but prefer to just read his books.

It depends on the author. There are some authors that I refuse to read their books b/c they are so hard to read. Like Stephen King. Ugh. Do we really need 10 pages to describe what the rain sounded like or what the pebble looked like??

For the most part, though, I prefer to read the book b/c there is more detail and you get the true story. They can't fit it all into a movie most of the time. Usually, though, I end up being disappointed in the movie b/c they change so much, especially if they change important aspects (IMO) of the book.

I'd rather do both, but if I had to choose it'd be a tough decision, since I'd have no idea which one is better.
There are cases in which the books are not very fun to read, but they tell a powerful story even though they are a hell to get through, and directors get inspired and make an amazing film out of it...The only examples I can think of in that case are unpopular foreign films so that won't help much cuz I'm sure people haven't heard of them...But in those cases I'd rather watch the film..
But then of course there's times when the movie is just a lame version of the book like in the case with Harry Potter and The Time Travelers Wife, Blade Runner (based on Do Androids deam of electric sheep) and the list goes on and on and on, in which case I'd just want to read the book!

I'm going with the book
While the Harry Potter films are done very well, there's so many details that need to be left out for the sake of brevity
I also like to envision things on my own, if i read the book after I watch the movie, I end up picturing it as the movie, if that made sense

I would rather see the movie but if I already have read the book, I would rather not see the movie because the book most of the time is much better.

I usually prefer the book.

But if I know it'll also be a movie, I'll watch it after reading.

It depends for me. Some movies are better than the books, IMO. Dr. Zhivago and Gone with the Wind to name two. I would have no interest in seeing a movie of The Catcher in the Rye, just to name one example, because no movie could do credit to the book.
