I posted last week about gagging in my cat...I was thinking a hairball. But her gags/coughs are unproductive, nothing ever comes up. So I was reading in this Healthy Cat guide I picked up that these are signs of Asthma in cats. Has anyone ever dealt with asthma? She also has been breathing a little harder and at night I can hear her breathe when she sleeps. I just thought she was snoring or something. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate them. I am going to call the Vet tomorrow to see what they have to say.

My cat, Midnight, (now deceased) was diagnosed with asthma during her last couple of years. Her symptoms were similiar to your cat. Midnight was coughing occasionally (like she had a hairball), was more lethargic, and also seemed to pant whenever she exerted herself. The vet suspected asthma, which was confirmed by lung x-rays and a blood test. Midnight was treated with prednisone, and we noticed a dramatic improvement in her condition after the first two doses.

Nope no second hand smoke. I took her to the Vet today and they did the xrays and she has a lot of fluid floating around like some kind of respiratory infection. We got some meds. BUT
the doctor said she might also have a heart problem and those MRIs are expensive. He thinks she might have a heart murmur! And maybe cardiomyopathy, heart disease that may be fatal. I hope she gets better we go back to get MRIs on Friday.
