I have a 5 year old normal cat. In apparently good health that appears to be scratching at her ears or neck. But I can not find any evidence of mites or fleas or other skin conditions.

Several months ago the cat DID have ear mites. Several treatments produced considerable wax and waste. But at this time the ears are completely "spotless" with no signs of dirt, debris or infection.

Any ideas? Thanks.

My guess could be either an infection or allergies. I had a similar problem a few months ago and the vet prescribed Tresaderm and I believe he mixed some antibiotics in it. The problem went away after a week. There was no sign of mites, fleas, or infection so it was a wild guess by the vet that happened to work.

I've also had allergy cats do the same thing, but on larger parts of their bodies. Stumpy was scratching for about 7 years and stopped suddenly right after our dog died. Turns out he was allergic to the dog (his best friend and sleeping companion in the house)!

Good luck!
