Hubby and I went to the annual Heritage Day celebration for our county. There were lots of displays as well as access to the museum. They were washing clothes in a washpot and hanging them on the line, looping tobacco, blacksmithing, making candles. There was bluegrass music and square dancing. They asked for volunteers to judge an apple pie contest. I had just finished off a barbecue plate and thought dessert would be nice so I volunteered. Two men also volunteered. We were given a bottle of water and told to wash out our mouths between tasting different pies. We were given opportunity to taste 6 different pies. The first one was terrible and it got worse after that. I learned two things. Number one, I should have baked them a pie, number two, be careful what you volunteer for.

Funny I was just given a sign-be careful what you wish for. Thinking it was given to wrong person lol!

I love going to things like that! We have a heritage days in the summer but it isn't near as involved. It's mainly just craft booths and carnival food with a few little history tours thrown in. We're going to one in PA next weekend (actually a fall festival) that sounds more like yours.

About the pie judging, I learned after I judged a cookie contest for a local girl scout troop years ago to NEVER volunteer for something like that again!! Or, at least to have plenty of rolaids on hand for afterwards. Hey, it could have been worse...it could have been a chili contest.
