My Mute Cat

Thread Starter
My cat Jynx from the day I got her has been practically mute. I have never heard her meow, hiss, spit or howl. She's 7 months now. Sometimes she opens her mouth as if she's meowing but nothing comes out.

She does however chirrup, A LOT! It's adorable but is it normal? I don't think it's cause for concern I'm just curious if there is any other cats out there like this?

It's normal. She can meow, it's just that her chirp is how she communicates with you. It works so she uses it.

I have one that rarely ever meows, but he can - he sounds rather wimpy when he does it, though. I have another who prefers to use his chirpy noises, his regular meow sounds rough/forced.

Nothing at all to worry about, some just make their needs known by subtle means. I have several mostly silent cats and the largest will sometimes make a pathetic mew and one of his sons has never made a sound and the other yells........go figure.

Our new adopted cat, Nikolai, mostly trills, but recently the wife has heard him meow a little bit. We think he's picking it up from our Russian Blue, Ninotchka, who is just a little "Chatty Kathy" and has an enormous vocabulary.

Yes, absolutely normal! My Pria only chirps and I have NEVER heard her hiss. The only time I have ever heard her meow is when she was at the vet to be spayed. Shadey also doesn't meow. He opens his mouth and tries to, but nothing comes out.
