My hubbys grandad has lung cancer and thats pretty hard being a smoker, he smokes 60 odd a day!! I just don't feel ready to pack up yet, if we ever have another baby I will do as I haven't smoked during my previos 3 pregnancies and I feel it easy to quit when I am pregnant.x

No , Never have never will... I am a Victim of second and third hand smoke... My mother smoked around me for decades... at age 24 I was diagnosed with COPD ( two of the three diseases that make it up).. Likely I would have come down with it at around 40 years after my diagnosis if I had not been around a smoker... I also lost my mom when she was 66 due to COPD

Congrats!

I smoke occasionally, but not enough to be classified as a smoker. I only smoke cigars and over the past 4 years I've only had about 20-25. It's mostly just a celebratory thing for me.

I try very hard to lower my health risks with the factors that are somewhat within my control, so no.

Nope, never have and never will. I've never tried one, simply for the fear of getting addicted. My uncle used to smoke, he says he's given up but when I see him, he always smells of smoke.

Same with me, never have, never will. Been around some smokers while growing up and hated every moment, I have always been well aware of the effects on health and never wished to even try.

I wonder if Ruthy can tell us whether smoking is still very common in the U.K. or whether smokers are becoming social pariahs like they are in the States? I wonder how much a pack costs in the U.K.? I was a "chimney" for 10 years and then got so disgusted I had to quit. Back in the day it was so hard to stop because everyone smoked. The hardest part was not smoking when I was drinking. Even DH smoked around me. It took me two years to stop smoking.

Never have and never will.
I watched my Grandpa die from Lung Cancer and decided then I would never try one and never have.
My friend died from Lung Cancer last May also and so did many people I know.

Smoking is far less common in the UK now than it used to be. There is a law prohibiting smoking in enclosed public places such as bars, restaurants, workplaces etc.

I believe the average cost of a packet of 20 cigarettes is the equivalent of almost $10 - it certainly is an expensive habit to develop.

Ok, I'll be the "outcast" here and admit that I smoke but am DESPERATELY trying to quit now that I found out I am pregnant. And, it is the HARDEST thing about the this whole pregnancy thing so far. I smoked for 20 years and I never actually had any desire to quit. I always figured that I'd quit when I got pregnant, like a switch would turn off in my body and I suddenly wouldn't want one anymore...but that just ain't the case.

My doctor told me to ween myself off cigarettes instead of quitting cold turkey so I got it back down to just a few a day, but sometimes I think cold turkey would be better.

I heard on the news the other day that $10 is the price now in NYC, due mostly to high taxes. The mayor of NYC is now trying to get Times Square smoke-free, which is awesome. Problem with ciggies now is that, due to high taxes, they are going underground like alcohol did during Prohibition. There is now a lot of crime due to illegal sale of cigarettes being sold across state lines without excise tax.

smoking is banned in public buildings and work places including work vehicles, I praise this, I have 3 children and don't want them subject to second hand smoke. I don't smoke in my house or around my kids, I think its very disrespectful to do so. Its refreshing now to walk in a restuarant and have a meal without fag smoke and thats coming from a smoker. I smoke rolling tobacco and that is £5.95 for 25g. x
