The floor guys are here right now, replacing the wood floors they incorrectly installed 2 years ago (we've been through a loooooong legal battle trying to get them to replace the floor). The last time, I didn't have Brillo and everyone just went out in the backyard while the guys were here, as the weather was mild.

Well, it's mild again, but it just so happens that my backyard neighbor is doing a building project of his own out back and they're laying a slab and are hammering, sawing, etc. Ziggy and Brillo are TERRIFIED!

Soooooo, they are locked in my bedroom--scared but safe. Ziggy is mewing a mournful sound every few minutes. Felix, OTOH, is somewhat happily hiding under a bush in the yard. He's more comfortable being outside when he's stressed.

I hope this doesn't take too long. The last time, the guys were here 4 weeks, but they did the whole house. This time it's just 1/3 of the area. Sigh...

Hammer hammer hammer...my ears are ringing!!!!

Thanks for listening!

The construction noise would drive me insane! I'd be in the room going crazy with the cats.

I hope it doesn't take too long and I hope the kitties calm down quickly.

Aww, it sucks to have to lock them up, doesn't it? Since moving almost 2 months ago, we've had tpo lock up Genever in the spare room a few times for DirecTV, Verizon, electrical work, and chimney work. And the house party. She hated it! She wants to always be around and know what's happening, but I don't trust her (or other people) enough that she'd stay inside and not wander off...

Good luck with your floors this time around, I hope they get done quickly!!

The floor dudes started taking up the old floor and the foundation is WET WET WET underneath!!! We knew that was what caused the floor failure the last time and they were liable as they did not use a moisture barrier. However, NOW it seems it's even too wet to use a barrier!!! The guys walked out, leaving everything in TOTAL DISARRAY, and we're awaiting an inspector. As it is, they won't be able to install my lovely bamboo!!!
I'm now looking at a high end porcelain tile. I was thinking Travertine, but the maintenance seems a little more than I want.

This couldn't be happening at a worse time! I was hoping to have this done soon after next week as I go to meet the oncologist next Wednesday about my immune system reboot. I can't have work being done when I have no immune system, so something needs to happen fast!

The cats are settling in for the evening but are pretty skittish around the totally empty living room. I hope they don't get into mischief because they can easily climb into the bookshelves in the dining room with all the furniture moved in there.

It's ALWAYS something, and I SO HATE DRAMA!

Thanks for listening,

Cally

Oh wow! Sorry this happened. Do you have any idea what's causing the slab to be wet? What a pain!!

Right there with you!
I need to replace my living room carpet desperately, but with 6 indoor cats I hate the thought of getting into the mess. I would have to round them all up and get them up to the 2nd floor while the floor guys are here, after I somehow manage to find them with all the living room furniture stacked in the other rooms, making brand new hiding places for them.

Do you have any idea what's causing the slab to be wet?
I'm curious, too.
Hope you get this done quickly, and without any more drama than you already have.

Sorry to hear about the further unexpected trouble. It's awful worrying about the cats, and then to have to be worrying aobut yourself on top of it..........

Look in the mirror, take deep breaths and repeat "This too shall pass" 100 times.

Hi,

As to the slab wetness, it's largely a mystery. I had an inspector out last year as part of the litigation and he found it wet, but "doable" as long as the proper sealing is done prior to installation. He could find no cause for the moisture but I suspect we have an underground spring under the house because when our swimming pool was dug 11 years ago, it began to fill from the bottom before the concrete lining was installed. All the rain we had this summer has probably caused it to get more active.

The original floor was an engineered hardwood, and that lets moisture escape. The woven bamboo we used 2 years ago (beautiful stuff) is solid so it just absorbs the water, since bamboo is technically a grass.

At this point, the dh and I have had enough! We just want something that won't get destroyed if it gets wet! The upstairs and our staircase still have the lovely bamboo so it's not so tragic. LOL

Today, however, the cats are LOVING the stacked furniture arrangements. Felix is acting like a mean old troll and chases the other two as they climb around on the chairs and dining table, etc. Great fun!

Will keep you posted. The flooring woman was supposed to call first thing today. So far NOTHING. I'm SO not surprised (and can't wait for this to be done so I can fill in an online rating of this company!)

I love hearing about the cats exploring all the new mountains of piled up furniture. Sufficient restitution for all their stress, eh?
