I do give my boys fishy stuff...

I mix together higher and lower quality foods to get them to eat and to save a little bit of money.

This worked amazingly well:

BFF tuna and salmon in aspic + FF salmon classic. A little warm water to blend it.

They HOOVERED their plates... Tex kept pushing onto everyone elses to get THEIR food!

I think they liked it. As much as my boys LUUURRRRVE their food, they rarely clean their plates. They did this time.

Hey, that's a good idea! Hope their enthusiasm lasts!

I'm still trying to find foods for Tolly. I bought some Weruva, which he ate with gusto at one meal, and will not touch it at all now (any of the three flavors I bought)

Queen Eva will eat one serving of the Weruva a day, but only one.

Mazy is on a prescrption diet.

Jennie likes it, and it is grain free so I will try her on it as variety for her, but I know if she has too much of it she will have constipation again.

Fancy Feast is so cheap now (33 cents a can at my Hannaford) I find myself wishing I'd never upgraded.

Yeah, that's the problem. Often, this stuff is a "one hit wonder" in my house, too. One food they don't seem to tire of is Authority Catfish formula. I mix it either with a can of FF chicken classic or the above-mentioned salmon. I don't like FF - but THEY do... and they eat really well otherwise so if it encourages them to eat their wet food, so be it. My vet did compliment me on their skin, coats and overall condition. She told me I feed them a "very good diet." And I know she has seen all kindsa stuff. She was a shelter vet.

Tolly did very well on FF grilled salmon (only) for many years. I only stopped it when the melamine poisoning happened, since it contains wheat gluten, even thoguh no FF was on the list.

But now, with his liver damage and all, I just can't bring myself to give him food with artificial stuff in it (not all FF has artificial stuff, but the only flavors he likes, do)

And I did notice an improvement when I went to "higher quality" foods, he gained weight and his coat is fluffier. The trouble is finding a HQ food he will eat, now that his beloved Innova is gone.

Bottom line is: will they eat it. Blending HQ with grocery store food is a great idea to cut costs but still give them a good diet.

Of course, Tolly won't eat blended foods.

Sorry I didn't mean to make your thread about Tolly, but his food issue is on my mind a lot.

Ritz (approx 18 to 20 months old) is now turning up her nose (mouth?) at AvoDerm Tuna and Crab Meat in Gravy (fairly liquid). She still eats the Sardine, Shrimp & Crab Meat EntrÃ[emoji]169[/emoji]e (not as liquidity). She's been eating and loving (too much....) both flavors of AvoDerm for months, and has always preferred fish to fowl or cow. I've started mixing the Ocean Fish Formula Kitten & Adult Cat Food (more calorically dense) with the Tuna & Crab Meat so it doesn't go to waste. Starky noted that the AvoDerm I've been feeding Ritz maybe a little low in fat, though not in protein. Maybe that's why she seems hungry 24x7.
I've been feeding feral cats mostly dry food, but a friend of mine recently gave me a lot of Friskies canned food and have been feeding them that (it's been really dry here in Washington, DC) And wouldn't you know it, the cats are starting to turn their noses up when they see the dry food!

You guys better be careful feeding too much fish food to your boys. Many male cats have more UTI's because of eating fish. We don't give ours any fish based foods.

They may get a bite or two of the fish we are eating for supper, but never canned or dry fish based cat foods.

Many Unfortunately do not have a choice due to allergies in feeding mainly to all fish... Surprisingly they are in some foods regulating the mineral levels in some to = a uti okay formulation....

Mine get BFF in rotation but as mentioned above I do not give much of it ..

I don't either.... just a "change-up" from some of the other stuff I feed.
