is my kitty spraying?

Thread Starter
I rescued my kitty from the humane society 6 months ago. Her name is Tuesday and she's the best kitty. Sweet and comes to me when i ask her to. It's like she's human or something. Now, for starters I have done the forbiden and changed her litter several times b/c I haven't found anything that I'm not too sensative to. I have also noticed a smell in my bedroom when I come home and I have closed the door for the day to keep her out while I'm away I
smell urine. I know she doesn't have any problems with using the littler box but I have noticed that since I've had her she acts like she sprays but nothing comes out so I dismissed it. But now I smell a faint enough smell that it's on my clothes. Although the funny thing is that I don't smell it in the livingroom area and her kitty box is in my kitty box is next to my kitchen in the dining room area.

I appreciate any help
thank you

I think there may be two different things happening here. Several of our cats look similar to a cat when spraying - the vibrating tail thing - but it's because they're happy to see us or excited about dinner. The vibrating tail is not spraying.

However, because you smell cat pee, she may be telling you she's not happy about the litter changing. If you have asthma or allergies, the best litter is an unscented litter without dust. We use Walmart Special Kitty litter. It's cheap and has very little dust and no scent (the one in the green box). Other people use Dr. Elsley's Precious Cat or Cat Attract litter - both have almost no dust. You may want to try the cat attract. You may also want to put out another box. Some cats are fussy about using a clean box.

To find the spots she's peed out of the box, get a black light. They sell small ones at pet stores. You have to hold them about 6" from the floor and walk around to find them, but in the dark they'll jump out at you as an orange splotch. It'll be very apparent. When you find them, the spots must be cleaned with an enzyme cleaner, it's the only way to rid the smell to the cat's nose. You can also add some to your wash for the clothing or bedding or whatever. (And check your mattress with the black light).

We use Nok Out - you can only order it online, but it WORKS. http://www.nokout.com. If the spot is older, it may need a second treatment.
