Pixie is a lap cat and she is very demanding of attention but my rb kitty, Tavia, wanted to lay beside me and she only wanted to be loved when it suited her and never liked being picked up where as Pixie loves to be held and she will crawl up on my shoulders if I let her. And Tavia would come when I called to her if it suited her where as Pixie almost always comes when I call her unless she is downstairs and is busy with her bathroom. Tavia was selective though she only wanted me and at times my dad but Pixie she will let almost anyone pet her. Tavia would open those claws on you if you was a stranger and she didn't want you.
Which it might be the differences in the breeds but Tavia was a dsh and Pixie is an American bobtail and they are said to be extremely loving cats but I just think its interesting how cats are like people each one is different and you can't always go by the breed standard. MY mom had a persian that was pure out right evil at times and she used to attack moms two siamese cats she would lay in wait for them. And the smallest siamese was such a sweet girl. Their momma cat was a whole other story she attacked the neighbors german shepard and sent the dog running.

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
Hercules will lay next to BF all the time and if we nap on the weekends Herc will sleep right on BFs chest. He doesnt do that with me but he will let me carry him around for loveys but noone else.

GiGi LOVES to be carried around and petted, she is our flying kitty. We actually have to warn people that if she is perched on the edge of furniture tell her NO because that means she is going to jump into your arms to ride around on your shoulders. She can jump from one end of the bathroom to the other shes talented haha. Ive even caught her scaling the shower curtain to get in there with BF.

Fatman....He will sleep next to me and BF in bed but he isnt a big lap cat and he will go nuts if you try and pick him up. He is a crotchety old man and is quite set in his ways. Atleast now he will come out of hiding when Max is sleeping, he still wont come out to the living room cuz he freaks out and ends up instigating the dogs into chase the kitty instead of doing the smart think and just walking by like they arent there. Herc and Gigi already figured out how to keep the dogs at bay.

Whisper and Bootser love nothing more than to be napping the time away on a lap, any lap. BooBoo has to be in the mood. Ms. Pepe used to be a bit of a loner, but as she's gotten older, she's become more needy. Amber Louise loves to be on a lap. Mollipop isn't really much of a lap kitty, but she must be in the same room as me. And when I go to bed with a book or to watch tv at night, it won't be long til Molli flops down next to me and curls up.

Our Rainbow Banshee loved to be on my lap. I could not sit down anywhere without that little girl being right on me. I think I was her favorite bed.

Mattie will sit on my lap, but it has to be her idea.
Muffin will allow himself to be held too. Speedboat, whom we lost in January was my lap cat. He made it well known to these other two cats and they knew they couldn't be in my lap. I think now they are getting used to the idea of being held.

Nero is an everywhere cat. Lap, legs, head, chest, shoulder. Neko and Hoshi will lay next to me or against me, but won't lay in my lap.

Pria is always stuck to me like glue and is very much a lap cat!
Imhotep, Osiris and Shadey are also big lap cats. Nova is Dana's lap cat and very much Daddy's boy.
Cleo II, Azizi, Teyah and Elliott are all love bugs and enjoy being pet but are not lap cats at all.

Autumn is a lap cat most of the time, other times she is happy just sitting on the floor next to me. When I am stretched out on the couch, she does jump up and sit on my legs or just rest her head in my lap. You can never pick her up, she will take off for the hills
or under the bed.

Every house cat but Blasa is. They're all take turns in my lap throughout the day. Though if I pick up Blasa and put her in my lap she will stay for a bit because she does love to be petted.

Outside, MewMew will try to climb all over you - yes, anyone. She's not shy. Boo's a mostly tamed semi-feral. He likes to be petted but would be afraid to be that close to me.

Momcat is not a lapcat
She doesn't really like to be held.

She prefer to be petted and rubbed when she's sprawled on the carpet

Sven used to love to lay on my chest, never on my lap though, but now he's old and cranky and just wants to be left alone.

Callie absolutely hates to be picked up and has never in 10 years crawled onto our laps, although she loves to be petted, as long as she's on the floor (silly girl!)

Darko is my best lap cat. Every time I sit down on the couch, Darko is right there, just waiting for me to signal that it's ok for him to jump up, then if I do (by just patting my lap) he'll glue himself to me for what seems like hours, and tuck his head under my arm)

Stinkpot mostly likes to be held, especially when I'm doing the dishes, goofy cat
. He will jump up on my shoulder, then worm his way around until he drops into my arms (or into the sink unless I catch him!!) THEN I have to carry him over to the couch and just cradle him for a few minutes till he gets bored, so I can then finish the dishes.

Bowser is very affectionate, but he doesn't like sitting in your lap or being held. He will do it from time to time, but it's pretty rare. He loves to sprawl out right next to me and demand attention, though.

Hurley likes to sit or lay down beside me.

Pandora will sit in my lap if she wants to.

Lilly likes to sit on my chest and she likes to be held like a baby.

I wish my outdoor semi-feral cat, Billy, would sit on my lap. He is quite the love bug (he growls when he purrs), but he has no clue that he could sit on my lap if he wanted to.

Mine are more cuddlers. It is not unusual to have Scooter, Fluffy, and Pepper lying beside me, kneading my belly, all wrapped around each other like a litter of kittens. Except for the claws, it is very cute and sweet. Pearl will let you hold her, but does not really like it much.

Jessee, Baylen and Meatloaf are sure lap cats. Aberdeen likes to sleep in my bed but not lay on my lap. Chloe is just an odd semi-antisocial cat who just paws at my son's arm for affection then goes off to sleep in her self designated spot. Charna...well, she is not real human friendly yet.

Here... or There... Hmmm
Kitters in NOT really a lap cat 90% of the time... HOWEVER... She is a HUGE daddy's girl and will lay on him if he is sprawled out on the couch often, and she will curl up with me when I have blankees and it's chilly in the house. But last winter she had her skin allergy act up and had to have stuff on again to keep her from pulling the scabs and she LOVED laying on my all the time, I think to try and make me feel bad for her! But I loved the cuddling!
