Well, I have begun deconstruction of my new home today. (It's not mine, but I've been given permission to do with it as I will.)

I did a little work very early this morning (3 am ish) and then got some sleep. Then I got back to it later. So. I'm posting a lot of pictures, little by little. Here are a few from when I went back out there later. I don't have any for the current state of deconstruction.

About to head to a hardware store and price my replacement parts. I hope they're not too much!

Wow, what a project! Definitely keep us updated on the progress. I'm just fascinated about what people can do to their homes to improve them. DH has plans to remodel ours too (as in tearing out walls and expanding) but I have a really hard time picturing things like that.

It's the latest in open floor plans. No need to worry about that the bathroom getting a bit stuffy while you're in there and look, there's even natural light!

Joking aside, you've really got a heck of a project there. I'll be looking forward to any future progress pictures, too.

Make sure to be careful if you're doing much of this yourself. Don't lift too much and hurt your back or neck in the process. Maybe even consider getting yourself a back brace.

I feel your pain...I feel your pain...
(Sorry, we've been doing a home improvement project 12 hrs. a day, since last Saturday, and this is supposed to be our "vacation". I'm feelin' a little off the wall right now!) You have a huge, but worthwhile project ahead of you. Please post more pics! Thanks!

What great potential and what a great way to work off frustration!! I think we have that same color toilet and sink in my bathroom. We also have the matching tile and bathtub.

Keep us posted on how it's coming along.

Well, I got a few more walls pulled down, realized that there is some termite damage I'll have to cut out and repair/replace. But it's coming along a bit. More pictures tomorrow before I go to work, hopefully.

I went to town and priced the stuff I'll need. The entire house/apartment is only 752 square feet. I'm putting in a hardwood patterned laminate for $.99 a square foot. All new walls, new counters in the kitchen, a dishwasher, new stove, new sink, tub, shower in the bath...

It all got priced today. Just to get started we're looking at about $3,000. However, I'm paying $145 per month towards this and putting in labor, and they're going to buy the stuff outright.

--sigh-- Time to go hook up the lights again and get started for a few more hours before bed. I'll update with pics tomorrow. Love you guys tons. Thanks for the support.

Finally off to bed for now. (yes, it is 3 AM) I'll post pics when I get off work tomorrow. Got lots more torn down, and a few pics of two friends lending a hand.

Wow, good for you hun! I wouldn't have the patience AT ALL for this kind of thing. I'd get everything torn apart, and not know how to put it back together again.

Just curious: are you installing laminate flooring in the bathroom? I know from doing ours a few years back that they recommend not doing this due to the moisture, etc. With my cats' habit of splashing their water bowls on the kitchen floor, I don't think I'd put it in my kitchen, either! (I decided on tile). We have it it the foyer; it came with the house. If the floor gets more than a bit damp, the edges of the laminate boards start curling up a bit. I hope I don't sound bossy, but I wasn't sure if you had ever worked with laminate flooring, and wanted to give the benefit of my experience.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
That is SUCH a fabulous skill! But I am so in Kailie's camp - I would not have the patience for that kind of work.

I LOVE that we're going to get to see the project progress - and you've already made so much headway!

keep coming your way!

I watch a lot of legal-type shows - enough to know that people need to protect themselves with a written agreement - hope you have something in writing that speaks to what work is allowed, and how funds exchange hands for payment of all the work and purchases made.

There's no place like home
You got yourself a big project!! My house is always in a state of destruction / construction. Right now I have a bathroom in the final construction stage, and the floors on the main floor in a destruction phase.

I hope you don't find anything weird as you do this. Some of the flooring that we've ripped up was a complete booger to remove.

Yeah, I know all about laminate flooring. I've worked with all kinds of things from linoleum to tile to wood. I know my way around power tools and renovations. :-)

I'm getting a few more pics together for you guys. here's two for now. More work has been done since these but we've got the problem of low-light pictures that don't want to turn out well. SO. two pictures for now. I have a day off tomorrow though, so better pics tomorrow.

I agree; money can do strange things to a friendship.
I wish I was there to lend a hand; I love doing this sort of work. It's a great way to keep your mind busy so you doh't have time to stew over things. Plus, you're so tired by the end of the day you don't have trouble sleeping.

You sound as if you're an old hand at this; just don't over-do and hurt yourself. (((hugs)))

Got the kitchen cabinets torn down. I feel a bit better!

Got too hot out there, so I'm inside waiting for it to cool down a touch.

Coming up with some AMAZING ideas though. I guess we'll have to wait and see how amazing it actually turns out. I'll keep updating. ^_^
