Excessive Shedding

I have two indoor cats, approximately 5-6months old, domestic short hair.

The two are siblings and on identical diets, yet the female barely sheds and has a shiny coat, but the male has a dull looking coat since I've gotten him and sheds profusely.

No bald spots, but if you pinch his butt lightly between your fingers and pull (not hard at all) you will get a considerable amount of hair.

He is an indoor only cat, and the temperature is kept steady, except when I go to work it gets up to 81oF max.

For food, they are fed primarily Wellness Chicken Kitten wet food, supplemented with BlueBuffalo Chicken and Rice Kitten dry.

No other obvious health issues, but I just don't even know how he can be producing enough hair to keep from going bald.

Could it be allergies?

Dull coats that shed profusely often indicate underlying illness. Cats are masters at hinding the fact that they don't feel good........until it's too late for their owners and vets to help them.

You might want to take him in for a general check-up and ask your vet to do a blood panel on him to see if anything is amiss.
