At least I can hope!
Good, the top of the foot isn't as sensitive so it shouldn't be that painful after.
I hope they get all of it.

Lots and lots of vibes heading your way love!!

I had a double foot surgery my senior year of high school; it wasn't too bad! I did a lot of damage to the bones in my feet from years of running/dancing, so they had a few repairs to make and they also took off a few icky planters warts as well. The doctor was really good about giving me proper pain medications/etc, so I never had much pain post op- I honestly felt a lot better than I did before I went in to have my feet repaired! I wore boot casts on both feet for about 6 months (my senior cruise and graduation included
). I was still able to drive and move around really well in them. (not sure if you'll have a boot cast or not, but if you do, they are a breeze to move around in and they really take the pressure off of the surgical sites.).

One side note, the first time you change the bandages on your own, please do not freak out like I did (I fainted!).The doctor didn't stitch the bottoms of my feet, they leave the incision sites open so it can heal and drain properly....I didn't realize that, so when I went to change my bandage for the first time, I saw all the gunk on the bandages and the huge holes in my feet and I screamed and passed out (thankfully my mom was there to knock a little sense into me!
). Anways, my point is not to get grossed out if there's a little draininage- that's completly normal! Since yours is going to be on the top of your foot, it probably won't be as bad!

Once you get used to wrapping/changing the bandages it will be really easy! Also, look for really good non-stick wrapping as well as bandaids - feet are difficult to keep things stuck on, so I found that if I did the bandaid first, then wrapped, then put on a clean sock before putting on my boot casts, things stayed in place! (I've got some good recommendations on tapes/wrapping if you want to send me a pm!) Hope all goes well!
Try not to stress, I had both feet done at the same time and it wasn't so bad at all!

Also, get you some of this to help with keeping the incision site clean- it works SOO well and it doesn't sting at all unlike a lot of other cleaners : bandaid antiseptic foam one step (It's a hurt free foam that makes cleaning up wounds painless and easy! You can find it at walgreens and most other stores!)

Nursey kitties are the best. Tolly is our nurse, but Queen Eva the Baby has shown a propensity for it too.

Keep us posted.

Wow, Nikki! Youve given me a lot to think about LOL! What would you recommend about showering? Don't have a tub...I think I'll be ok about the wound. I had a surgery a few years ago on my hip - the scar is at least 12" long!

I hope your surgery goes well and that your foot heals quickly. I had a ganglion cyst on the ball of my foot. For months I wore a built up shoe and had injections where they drew off the fluid. Finally I had surgery. When the doctor got in there, the cyst was more extensive than the x-ray showed. It involved tendrils around two toes. They removed all the padding from the ball of my foot. Eventually everything healed, but it took a while. From the top, I don't think you will be facing walking problems. Hope it all goes good for you. Relax and enjoy your recuperation. Have everyone wait on you.

Honestly? This is a little embaressing but at the time, my mom borrowed an extra shower chair that my nannie wasn't using so that I could use it for my showers.
I put my bathing suite on and my mom would help me onto the shower chair at first (proped my legs up on the side of the tub) and we did my showers like that for the first few weeks (the shower head had the option to be hand-held, so that helped!). I don't think it would have been such a big deal had I only had one foot done, but since they were both done and it took me a little while to walk efficiently in the boot casts, my mom helped me out to make sure I didn't fall at first. Once I was able to move around better, I wrapped those heavy duty trashbags around my boot casts with tape (several layers worth so my feet wouldn't get wet) and then showered by myself like that. I'm sure a fly on the wall would have gotten a good laugh out of that!
It worked though! I never did get my boot casts wet and I never got any kind of infection in my incision sites thankfully
Definitely go for the heavy duty trash bags and wrap your foot up well if you need to shower- it'll keep all of the bandages/dressing dry.

I just saw the update and I'm glad to hear your surgery went well!
Lots of healing vibes headed that way!

Haha, I have SOOO been there with the shower chair! I found out those plastic outdoor chairs work GREAT for the shower when I had my broken pelvis. This little dealio is nothing compared to that, LOL.

The nerve block wore off, so I am feeling a little bit of pain, but a different sort than before, so I think that's good. I'm probably doing too much, as I'm walking around and stuff, but I gots things to do!!! LOL

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
I'm late to the thread... but I'm glad all went well! And it does sound like you're doing too much - get off your foot and let it heal for a day or two!!!!!!
