Hi everyone...

my cat is sick. Her name is Callie, she's a short hair calico and she's about 6 years old. Her normal behaviour includes puking up food sometimes after eating, but she's always been like that. She also sometimes poops out of litter box in the basement normally.

But several days ago, she puked up some stomach bile (it was white-ish foam) and pooped in the basement. And on Monday night she puked more bile (white foam again) in several spots in the basement. I didn't think she was sick because when I fed her on Monday night she was laying on me and ran to the food to eat it as usual, so she had an appetite.

I was waiting to see if maybe she would get better. My mom gave her some hairball gel stuff yesterday to see if maybe she had a hairball. She didn't puke since 4pm on Tuesday but didn't seem to be eating or drinking. She's just been laying around and sleeping.

I thought she was getting better last night because she did eat something around 2AM and hadn't puked or anything. But this morning her bum has like... mucous on it? And she puked/had diarrhea (it looks like a liquid brown?) downstairs once. And she doesn't seem interested in food or water again. Also, she was laying on her back this morning and seemed to be in pain as her stomach kept contracting and making her back legs shake/shiver. my mom felt her and thinks her stomach is like... bloating or distended?

I'm really worried! I made a vet appointment for tomorrow at 4:45 but I'm just really worried about her health between now and then. Is there anything I can do to make sure she'll be okay until then? :'(

It sounds more like an emergency vet visit rather than waiting for the appointed time... Try to get to the vet quicker!

Try to give her water while you wait as she is now getting dried out too.

If you forcefeed, in the corner of the mouth, NOT down the neck...

Good luck!

I agree. Your vet needs to see the cat right away. Was there anything in the basement your cat could have eaten? Keep us posted.

Hello everyone!
thanks for your concern and advice.
I was also quite worried so I took her to the vet today.
the vet said she's really constipated and her colon is like rock hard.
so they did an anema and a big piece came out. she still has some in her but they suggested if she doesn't poop it out by tomorrow to go back for another anema.
for now I'm feeding her a bit of soft food with water added in and might have to give her slight laxatives in order to prevent this from happening again in the future since her colon will be all stretched out.

thanks again!

any suggestions on natural laxatives and good food to give her to aid in digestion?

Yes, she did suggest I give her Lax-A-Day, which is a laxative I can buy at human pharmacies. I was just wondering if there was anything else you guys might use.

Don't use over the counter laxatives. You can use either organic catnip just give her a pinch or two or mix it with her food. Cat Grass is another source of fiber and also canned pumpkin (plain not the pie mix) Anything else unless your vet gives it to her is going to be pretty harsh on her system

Also, be sure to brush her daily. That will help with some of the hairball problem. What are you feeding her? It's not good for her to throw up so frequently. She could be allergic to something in the food you're feeding her, too. Look into changing her to an almost all canned diet. That will really help with both the constipation problem as well as the throwing up problem.

@hissy: But that's what the vet instructed? She also said that fibre could be dangerous because it will make her feces heavier and possibly cause constipation since her colon is very stretched now.

@stephanie: Both my cats just eat some hard food like Friskas or something. I don't think she's allergic to it, but she eats too much food at once sometimes and puke from that.

Anyways, I am putting Callie on a canned food diet now and mixing it with water to keep her hydrated and prevent her from getting constipated

You might also try giving her baby food yellow squash - essentially the same as canned pumpkin, but available in a smaller size and easy to mix with canned cat food.
