Hi I am new here. We adopted a kitten when she was 8 weeks old. She was loaded with worms and was very skinny and tiny. She didn't want to eat any food we tried until the vet gave us SD prescription wet food and she loved it! With meds and the new food she got better. The only thing is that the only food she would eat was the Royal Canin babycat wet food and then we switched her to that same dry food and she loves it and is doing well on it. My concern is that is it a good food? Also it is VERY exspensive (17.99 for 3 lbs.)for what it is I think. But I am so worried about switching to a better food because I am afraid she won't like it and then not eat again. She is 16 weeks old now and does shed a lot so I thought about a better food. Also should she be on dry and wet food? It has been very confusing!

I know some people swear by Royal Canin.. especially things like breed-specific and the Babycat for the extra small kibble for kittens who have trouble with the dry food.

I cannot advise on what kitten dry to give her, but in general most of us on here feed a mix of wet and dry if we can afford it. I do 50/50. It helps with kidney function and overall hydration since cats are not thirsty animals.

Hopefully, someone else will be along shortly to advise on either kitten kibble or all-life-stages food.

Oh - and congrats on the kitten!! Thank you for taking SUCH good care of her!!!

What sort of shopping options do you have? Pet supply stores? Petsmart, petco? Any farm supply/feed stores?
If not many options, would be you adverse to shopping online?

I have many options. I think I can get any food locally. I just want to make sure what I am paying for is worth it.

Babycat has a definite reason... get small mouths eating enough
... IMHO after the four month mark there are FAR better foods for less money...

I would actually see a vet about the shedding as a 4 month old is a touch young for that issue( ie not likely RC as it is high in fatty acids)

We started off feeding Tumbles Babycat 34 when we first got him at approx. 10 weeks old. We mixed it with the baggie of food that the lady who'd fostered him sent us. We also added in some Taste of the Wild dry that we had on hand for one of our other cats. He loved the TOTW food so much that after about a month, we started feeding him TOTW dry and not kitten food. He also eats EVO cat/kitten food and is healthy as a horse!

Both TOTW and EVO are Grain free all Life stage foods .. Ie good for kittens and adults... Many "kitten" labeled foods are this if you read the AFFCO seal

That's why we went with just the cat/kitten food (EVO) and the TOTW. He's doing great on them. Growing like a weed and his fur is soooooo soft and silky.

What is EVO? I am not sure I have ever seen it. Or maybe I am just not paying attention. I just had a sick kitten pass with FIP and before she passed I had purchased I think at least one can of every kind of kitten wet food at the pet store to try and get her to eat. In the end she would barely eat meat baby food. So I have a ton of food I am going to feed to my other cats and see and what they will eat best. I am going to switch to higher quality food.

We get EVO at the feed store, of all places! If you go to their website, they have a store locator. We also get the Taste of the Wild from the feed store.
