Taste of the Wild Fish-only formula

Saw it in the store today. Trout, the ubitquitous "ocean fish" meal and smoked salmon are the animal proteins. Otherwise the formula looks very similar to the original. This should be good for people needing a chicken/poultry free formula and grain free, not overly rich. My boys are doing very well on the original.

I may go back and buy a 5 lb bag to give it a try.

Protein: 32% Fat: 16%
Calories: 3,741 kcal/kg (350 kcal/cup) Calculated Metabolizable Energy
Available in 5lb and 15lb bags.

Ingredients
Trout, ocean fish meal, sweet potatoes, potatoes, potato protein, canola oil, smoked salmon, natural flavor, choline chloride, methionine, taurine, dried chicory root, tomatoes, blueberries, raspberries, yucca schidigera extract, dried fermentation products of Enterococcus faecium, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei and Lactobacillus plantarum, dried Trichoderma longibrachiatum fermentation extract, vitamin E supplement, niacin, manganese proteinate, copper proteinate, zinc sulfate, manganese sulfate, copper sulfate, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), vitamin A supplement, biotin, potassium iodide, calcium pantothenate, riboflavin (vitamin B2), pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, manganous oxide, sodium selenite, vitamin D supplement, folic acid.

Why are your interested in switching- are your cats sensitive to poultry? Or is it thought that a fish-only diet is healthier?

Just curious- I use TOTW for mine as well.

Oh, no. Not interested in switching, but maybe giving them something a little different that won't upset their tummies. There have been a few posts lately where people have been looking for poultry free dry foods... and here is another one from a reputable maker. That's all.

Very interesting! I might try adding this to my rotation when I run out of my 30lbs food I just bought for the kids - it has a lot less calories than EVO and Orijen, the only thing is a lot more potatoes/carbs too..... hummmmmm.... Like to have one more choice though - It looks good!

I didn't realize it was a lower-calorie food, but that makes sense. I got Romeo about two months ago and switched him right over to TOTW, and he's definitely thinned out.

530 kcal/cup EVO
470 kcal per 250ml/110g cup Orijen
Those are for the fish versions so yes, considerably lower... But, considerably higher in carbs - EVO has only 10% Carbs...

Available in 5lb and 15lb bags.

Wow, yeah that's a lot. It's good to know, too, in case I ever have a cat that's in need of putting on some weight, so I could steer away from TOTW in that case.

Not necessarily... the lower calorie on the surface would make you think normal to slightly less active kitty.... but realize the ave cat of 10 lb only needs 150-300 ( based on 15-30 cal per lb)...

I went with TOTW initially b/c I needed a grain-free- trying to resolve diarrheal issues in one of my cats and I needed to FEED SEVEN MOUTHS!! So GF and reasonable cost, plus good quality, led me to TOTW.

I use EVO Herring and Salmon dry as "treats" - the cats beg for it! But if I give Archie (gut issue cat) too much of it... it is too "rich" and he gets soft stool!

I'm probably an idiot and its stickied somewhere, but what does the color coding mean again? This always confuses me like the terror alerts. "Oh no, we're at threat level pink... wait, is that bad"?

Your not an idiot .. it is a sticky under another sticky
http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=140038

It used to be red , yellow , green but a few on here do not see those colors well so it turned pink, orange , blue

If I come across a 5lb bag of it I might pick it up. I've been switching Tanna over to TOTW and Sho loves it (not an active cat), but something in the original formula makes Siri (also only a moderately active cat) vomit. I could try the fishy one and if she can't have it Sho and the kittens still could.

I got a sample of Evo Herring/Salmon, and my cats were literally fighting tooth & nail over it! I gave each kitty a kibble or two as a treat, but there wasn't much to go around by the time everybody got some.

I'd love to try the fish, as I think the kitties would like it - but with the UTI history here I'm always hesitant of fishy foods.
IMO I stay away from fish based foods period - especially having male cats. Many males are more prone to gettting UTI's on a mostly fish diet. So they rarely get any kind of fish.

I've already lost a 3 yr old cat to UTI complications! Had he been on a fish based food, I probably would have lost him sooner!

Stopped in a local pet store to get some EVO herring and salmon. I see they carry TOTW now so I asked if they have the feline formula, how much, etc. And the young lady behind the counter gave me a couple of sample bags of the new TOTW formula with my EVO purchase.

Soo... took it home and gave some to the boys as a treat! WOW! They LOVED it!!! Big hit in my house.

So I may use it from time to time as a treat food for them.
